I've got a JAMMA cab with a Wells Gardner 19k4906 that plays blind. I've had the cab for a while and no noteworthy issues before. This issue started after I moved the power supply and a few other things in the bottom of cab.

Symptoms: Obviously playing blind. There is no high-pitched hum from the monitor. The monitor has power. The fuse on the monitor chassis is good. When powering on, there was no "pop" from the flyback or anything, that I observed.

Any thoughts, guys?

Thanks in advance!

Start with a recap and cold solder inspection. That fixes most dead 4900's...

Even if the neck isn't glowing?

Yep. If your fuse is blown, then check the VR and HOT while you're at it, but you'd be surprised how often bad caps and cold solder will take down something as robust as the 4900...

Modessitt has been a great help before, and I trust him... but can anyone else confirm that this may be fixed by recapping? It seems like bad caps would more likely than not cause the monitor to be dim or seem out of adjustment somehow, rather than just dead after having played perfectly fine a day or two before...

You're going to need a cap kit ($5) anyway, and touch up the cold solder (free), so you might as well do it. The flowchart is just a base to start from, and doesn't cover everything. You could go right through it and find every part they mention tests good, and you'll still need to do caps and reflow solder. If you start with the caps first and still have a dead chassis, then you'll have the best possible baseline for doing further testing.

That's why I said START with the cap kit and solder reflow. If that fixes it, then you're done. If not, then we move on from there...

With a cap kit, do I replace ALL the caps on the chassis? If not, which ones? I'd normally order caps for other uses from some mail-order place - is there some place that you know of that specializes in monitor cap kits?

Also, where's the flowchart? Sorry, I'm new to monitor work...

Finally, who is Randy?

Thanks guys!

I feel silly for not checking Bob Roberts' site now. He's a great guy to deal with, and of COURSE he makes things as easy as possible. Thanks, OldTymeToys! :)

Thank Bob- not me. ;) Make sure to send your payment to him as soon as he confirms your order so we can keep cross-shipping alive!

Will do! He caught me off-guard with cross-shipping the first time, and I didn't get payment sent 'til a couple days after he shipped, but nothign too bad. Bob is the man, for sure.
