I have a Wells Gardner WG 19K4901 chassis and RCA 19VLTP22 tube in my Centipede cabaret. The tube has some burn-in, and searching thru the archives shows that the 4900 seems to be short on replacement parts if my flyback goes out.

Both of these items have me thinking ahead to the day when I replace the entire monitor outright with a new monitor. I know 19" monitors are getting more scarce too, so I may need to think about the rainy day fund for it sooner rather than later.

I have heard the name 8liners.com thrown out there, but have no idea what I should be looking for when considering a modern replacement. This monitor seems to be a horizontal one that's mounted sideways, but I have also seen vertical units advertised. Does that really matter anymore?

As you can probably tell, I'm new to this forum... first post! :D Thanks in advance.

K4900 flybacks are now available if you ever need one.

As for a replacement, the Vision Pro 2 being sold by Arcadeshop ($199) is a very nice monitor and only needs the power connector adapted before installing....

modessitt, thanks for the quick reply. It's good to know my chassis isn't as hopeless as I may have otherwise been led to believe! I just wonder how much $$$ I get into for a new tube, etc. versus just starting fresh. I'm new to the world of arcade monitors and a bit intimidated by it all. :/

So if I understand correctly, the orientation of the monitor (vertical vs. horizontal) is something I don't have to worry about because that can be adjusted via the controls, right?

The existing power just looks like it's a molex connection from the monitor to the harness; I think even I could handle that one. :D

Thanks!

Your Centipede has a horizontal shelf mount frame, just like the Vision Pro would. Other than the power molex, it's about the easiest install you'll ever do.

And the game program determines whether the image is vertical or horizontal, not the tube or the adjustments...

That's good to know. I have seen chassis frames that look like they are specifically installed in either a horizontal or vertical frame, and I was thinking that was specific to their orientation in a cabinet. I am probably over-thinking all of this... and I appreciate you setting me straight.

The vertical frame monitors operate exactly the same as their horizontal frame counterparts.

My Centipede mini has a horizontal mounted vertically. Now that you mention it, I wonder if there are ones out there with a vertical mount. I've seen full size Centipedes with both kinds.

Sometimes, a cabinet's shape precludes a horizontal frame from fitting, or allowing the back door from going on. Some games like Wizard of Wor put a plastic bubble on the back from where the monitor would stick out, and other games like Gyruss used a vertical shelf mount frame to keep anything from sticking out.

Nowadays, the vertical shelf mount was replaced by the universal mount, but I don't think there are any new ones being sold with that frame. The main differences between the horizontal and vertical frame is the mounting. The horizontal frame bolts in along the short sides of the tube, while the vertical (and universal) frame bolts in along the long sides of the tube...

That makes sense, but I wanted to err on the side of embarrassing myself here instead of getting something that won't work (and trying to still spin to my non-arcade spouse how awesome and cheap this whole arcade hobby of mine is!)

Cheers!

Seems like it would be a really tight (and inaccessible) fit to me... but I'm sure it's been done! Can't be too much different that a monitor fitting in some of the the Sega/Gremlin "Trimline" cabinets. :D
