Picked up curbside Frogger. I checked the connections, added a new power cord and turned it on. Game works, playing blind, however the monitor is sizzling and throwing sparks from the neck or neck board. It's not really getting a glow. It is also sparking heavily from the tube to the springy thing wrapped around the back of the tube. I have been searching the forum but haunt found any conclusive answers. Maybe a grounding issue? flyback? Game definitely looks all original, I don't even think the back had ever been off. I have another 19 inch monitor, in my Aero fighters I may use if this is not a simply, read cheap fix. My allowance from my wife will only cover the cosmetic restoration, probably not a whole new monitor.
hopefully somebody knows what this problem is. I could upload a video of it tomorrow if needed. I pulled the neck board off and played multiple games blindly with no issues, so this mo itor problem seems to be the only issue. Please help!!

I'd check that tube for a hairline crack.....probably around the neck.

Ok, I will check that.... If so, does that make the monitor unfixable? I.E. Trash? That is where I found it!!!
The tube would be junk, yes (you could remove the yoke and convergence rings if you wanted). If that's the case you could just look for another tube from the same model monitor or try a tube swap from an old TV set. That spring on the back of the tube should be a ground for the crt and it should eventually have a wire going to the neck board.

I had that

And it was the flyback. It was arcing all over the place, and replacing the flyback did the trick. Of course, it still plays blind, but I'm working on that.

If you have a spare IC (whatever ther 4600 takes), I'd probably check that as well. With all the sparking, if anything is going to get FUBAR'd (IMO), it'll be the IC.

Yeah, the flyback is what I'm leaning towards...now the big question, does anybody have one or where to get one? Internet says not available?

You might check with ArcadeCup to see if they have any to sell? They're flyback page has an error so I can't tell if they're out of all flybacks, or if it's just not reading the database right.

Thanks for that. I didn't see it on their site so I emailed them. I might also check with a local TV repairman who works on arcades. I bought a game from him before and know him a little through work. I'm going to see what he would charge to maybe fix this monitor for me, just for ease. I want to concentrate my time on the cosmetic restoration on this one

well, I swapped in another 19 monitor I had and game is up!! works great! I am moving on to the cosmetics. Taking a non original path on this one. I'm gonna paint the cabinet green, with black on the kick panel. I'm going to install bue t molding, a new marquee light, new bezel, new cpo, and maybe a free credit button. I am either going to put original side art on it, or maybe make a custom decal for the sides. I'll put pics of the finished game in Restoration Showcase. Thanks for all the help
