Were the NEO GEO MVS's kit only?

I'm the opposite. Ive never been a fan of the Goldies, they're just ugly to me. My favorite is the 2 Slot dedicated big red, and of course the Neo25 and Neo29 candy cabs.

To each his own, i guess. Those candy cabs are the ugliest shit I've ever seen in my life, looks like a plastic toy or something. God awful.

The big reds are nice, though.

Edit: I just went and checked out pics of the Candys to make sure I wasn't crazy. Looks like a japanese port-a-john or something.

I can't be the only one who sees this.

Though I'm still not sure what the purpose of this was, unless they were thinking that in conversions, they could position the board in such a way to have an access point in the cab for the memory card?

The MVS2 25" came from the factory with the 2 slot mounted like this - with the mobo pushed up to the cab wall so the memory slot could be accesed by the general public.

Generally though, the memory card was for operators use and really didn't need to be acessable by the general public (the ones that liked to stick trach in the slots when they had access to them) -- the operator could go to the machine, pop the CP, insert the card and download the machines statistics, pull the card and go sit at their computer and copy / trend / whatever with the data with the SNK supplied software.

i was under the impression that it was used so that people with the homecarts could save their games and highscores..

I was given one by an op down in South Texas, he said he never used it and had like 3 or 4 just sitting in his office. I had that card for YEARS before I had my first Neo.

Sorry pal, that makes no sense. Almost EVERY game supports the memory card in some fashion. I think only six do not. Why else would it be accessible on the OUTSIDE of the cabinet?!? The memory slot was totally for users. I know the ops could copy bookkeeping data to it, but that was just a by-product or extra feature.

On a side note... I need a memory card! :) I bought one and it no workee. :(

See the flyer above.. the OPs were given the memory card with purchase.

Blkdog, I never said they weren't for general public use to save games from the NGH and continue on the MVS cabs that the card reader is available for the public to access.

Do you think the memory card reader is any good on a Goldie to the general public when only the OP can get to it?

It has 2 functions.

You can set your code that you assign to that cab to the card in the soft dips and transfer data from that cab to your computer and keep track of that machines statistics. This is talked about in the cabs manual.

Besides nothing funnier than saying "I have a woody in my gameroom"

Heh, You do have a point there :D

I've just always heard people calling them goldies, I think they were unofficially called the Neo Geo Gold cab (not to be confused with the Neo Geo Gold System)
I always thought that the Neo "Woodys" were any of the cabs that were made of wood as opposed to the Neo "Candy" Cabs...

The marquee and control panel have a metallic gold look to them, hence the name.

I remember my local arcades selling these Memory cards soo you could continue your games either from the arcades or the consoles.

But with the games only beeing 1 tokens each why spend 20.00 for a memory card that you did'nt have this High priced Dream System!

I don't want to turn this into a technical thread but with so many Neo guys chiming in here I wanted to ask if anyone could possibly lend me a hand in getting my 1 slot system running. If so I will start a new thread in the Tech section and post a link. I am dying to play some samurai showdown!!!
