Went to pinball hall of fame in Vegas on the weekend

I went to pinball hall of fame in Vegas on the weekend and discovered:

- I don't need to buy a "Black Hole" by Gotlieb. It was a great game when I was a kid, but now, not so much.

- High Speed II, kinda sucks.

- High Speed (the one I have) is more fun than I realized it was.

- I definately need to find and restore a Williams Black Knight.

- I don't need a Defender.

- I do need, Stargate (Defender II)

Damn...ain't you a downer...

How is this a downer?

I played the machins I wanted to play, and learned which ones were important to me, and which ones I simply 'remember' they were important...

Oh well...

I agree with you. Doing such research (as I call it) ahead of time will save you a lot of time, money, space issues, relationship issues (if relevant), and disappointment. If you're in this hobby because you love to play the games then it is well worth your time to think long and hard about which games you truly like, and will have staying power, before you commit your resources to them. I see a lot of collectors who find themselves with way more games than they really want, constantly thinning the herd so they can bring home another game they will likely dump on craigslist in six months.

Sorry..I was just being sarcastic...no offense intended.I agree with the try before you buy...helps weed out the ones that don't appeal.

I felt that way after playing so many pinball games at the NW game show.
I found so many that I thought would be fun was just not as fun as I hoped that they would be. I crossed alot of machine off of my want list after the show.

My Mom went there a couple weeks ago.
She came back wanting a couple really odd choice......

Orbitor 1.
Waterworld.
Banzai Run.

Go figure! Unfortunately, all I could find was a Firepower.

I was there last weekend as well.

Completely agree with your thoughts on Black Hole, High Speed II and Stargate. Black Knight was a lot of fun, but I could not find the appeal in Black Knight 2000 - I know it's a pin darling, but I could not get into it.

Was it me or did the Black Hole seem to be poorly leveled? It seemed like every ball would float straight from the lower playfield into the center drain. Kinda pissed me off.

I did find that I definitely do need to buy a Monster Bash and an Attack From Mars.

I was surprised how much fun Goldeneye, Stargate, Waterworld and Banzai Run were. The Safe Cracker was quite a blast as well.

Your all missing the point, Back then--1950--1960---1970--THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS!!!. Just think and look at all the back glass theams and art of an era gone today. Depicting the best of times. Teachers pet, space time, hot tip, geni, phoenix and so many others. So simple yet entertained the most hard core player of that time. Today its tec--tec--tec. Why can't we just be satisfied with the thrill of SKILL and LUCK and be happy with what we have vs what we need to advance to...........HAZA!!

I'm going in a few weeks. Should be awesome!

I'll have to disagree here. Not my favorite game but I still find it fun and interesting.

- High Speed II, kinda sucks.

Agreed.

- High Speed (the one I have) is more fun than I realized it was.

I like it more than High Speed II

- I definately need to find and restore a Williams Black Knight.

I've owned several of them and still own one. Not a big fan of the game play. I wouldn't go so far as to say it sucks but it doesn't not suck.

- I don't need a Defender.

It's pretty rare anyway.

- I do need, Stargate (Defender II)

Stargate is not Defender II. If that was a joke then... haha :)

After visiting PHOF I wanted a Pinball Circus and a Cactus Canyon!

Orbitor 1 was probably the most disappointing pin I played with Haunted House coming in a close second. Most surprising machine for me was Whodunnit.

Orbitor 1 is awesome !!! You gotta play it more than once or twice....

I played it several times. I just couldn't get it. There was so much randomization going on it seemed like it was impossible to reliably hit any target. I had long ball times with nothing seeming to happen - which was very odd for a pinball machine.

I think i played 4 or 5 games on burt's orbiter, pretty awesome table, I still couldn't get the flipper trick working for me... :(

I'm gonna be at the PHoF sometime during Oct. 7-9th. Bringing 2 rolls of quarters along with me, hopefully I'll get to play most of the big title tables, but I'll also dump quarters into games that look like maybe they're not getting enough love...

How many quarters do you guys tend to bring?
