Went to an "Estate Sale" at a mansion in Atlanta today to scop out the game room...

Here is the Craigslist ad:

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/gms/2444794350.html

The house was HUGE. And when I say that is was big, the picture does not give you any idea of how large it really was. It had AT LEAST 8 bedrooms and although I don't know the square footage, my guess would be around 12,000 square feet. Anyhow, since the listing didn't have a phone number, I took a chance and drove about 40 minutes out of my way before heading back to home today.

I don't know the story behind the house (I should have asked), but it has been vacated and they are selling basically everything that was in it. Something REALLY crazy was the fact that on the way there, about a mile or so from this estate, was a custom house (if you can call it that) that was built like a castle from an animated movie complete with a MOAT and everything! I REALLY should have taken a picture. My son automatically assumed that it was some sort of fantasy business for kids to play and have parties at, but sure enough, it was a private residence.

Anyhow, back to the estate sale. In the downstairs game room, there was an old Dynamo coin operated air hockey table, a bubble chex style hockey game (I didn't see a price on either of them), a Galaga machine that needed a cap kit (at the minimum) BAD and a pretty nice Hydro Thunder. The price on the Galaga was $1,700 and the Hydro Thunder was $3,500. Needless to say, I didn't even bother making an offer on anything. I asked a worker that was present about the pinballs, and she said that they were all sold on the first day of the sale (Friday). I asked what the titles were, and she had NO IDEA. So, as far as the games were concerned, it was a BUST. It was an intesting house to tour, however...

I am glad I didn't pursue the ad any further. It seems like the estate sales always price everything extremely high. The Roswell castle is indeed a private residence. The moat is actually a swimming pool.

Saw that add, Glad I had to work now. figured it would be outrageous.

I emailed first thing about the Shadow pinball they were selling and got a response back mid-day on friday saying all the pinballs were sold. I can only imagine that they were all purchased by Tom at Atlanta Arcades...We'll if when they start popping back up for sale. Glad I didn't try to miss work and waste my time.

that bites about the prices. there's a weekly garage sale here that's been going on for 2 or 3 weeks now, and the guy has around 10 games, but they're all way overpriced... beat up galaga and he wants $700 for it, and it includes an hour of instruction. yipee!
