I was down visiting a friend near the beach today and we made our way over to the pier. They had a massive old arcade there with a ton of machines... (mostly redemption but some vids tossed in here and there)

I didn't grab any pics but just picture any pier arcade and you pretty much know what it looks like.

Lots of busted rides, candy machine things, some carnival games, and indoor tilt a whirl type ride... I saw a busted to hell Simpsons cab and a nice Qix/Space Invaders combo machine. They had weird puppet show things that danced for a quarter. It was an interesting experience as I had only been to one other pier arcade a few years ago.

I gotta say, the place was bumping but honestly about half of the machines were out of order... Lots of coin slots with screws drilled into them or gummed up to prevent play. It's really odd to have so many machines not working so I'm assuming the owner probably just uses them as storage and to make the place look like it has more stuff than it does.

Saw quite a few old chicken egg vending machines... an old Chuck E Cheese merry go round that was extra creepy... some newer redemption games that were half working.

Overall it was a good hour of fun just checking out the stuff. Anyone been to any of these lately? Are any in decent shape or all they all in a state of disrepair like this one was?

Glad to hear about a pier arcade still around.

Sad pics from several years ago, Funtown Pier Arcade destroyed back east.

Here's Funtown Pier Before:

I have heard of the Redondo beach arcade, it looks very cool. I saw a video of it on youtube, its out there just look for it. They have a lot of very strange machines. They had some good games too. They do have a lot of broken machines, like a lot of arcades I suspect they are struggling with CRT monitor repair. A lot of the games only had one side working on a 2 player game, at least from the video I saw. Some very different stuff. The prices seemed very cheap, a lot of games there seemed to cost less to play than elsewhere. Its definitely a place I would check out if I was in the area.

As a kid one of my favorites was on a pier called Barnacle Bills at Surf City NC. It was a staple to stop their on vacations. They had a TMNT at the back part that was always being played. It was sadly destroyed by Hurricane Fran

Also on a trip to a lake on time there was a huge arcade over the water. It blew my mind as a kid

Pier arcades were just awesome back then
