Just pulled a dead wells 4900 chassis from a championship sprint cab. This is a medium res game yet it worked off a standard res monitor- HUH  Can anyone elaborate on this?

I cant find parts anyhere for this damn chassis- anyone have one for sale then???

4900 came in medium rez and standard rez flavors.. im sure its just throwing you off since it looks like a regular 4900
just repaired a dead 4900 medium rez today..
was pulling high current and flyback pulse was bad.. bad primary winding..

Post a pic. The medium-res version of the K4900 is called the K4915. You can get a cap kit, HOT, and VR from Bob Roberts....

yup just verified its a 19k4915

on the bottom of the unit it states 2061433-040

Where can I buy a flyback from?

I'm pretty sure the med-res flyback is the same as the standard-res flyback, but you should check yours to see if has the same number. Chad at www.arcadecup.com sells the K4900 flyback replacement.

Make sure you need one, though, as the K4900 flyback does not fail often. Usually a dead K49xx chassis is due to cold solder combined with old caps...

Thanks for the info - I will break out the solder gun tomorrow to resolder all cold joints

I just cleaned the bottom of the chassis with some vinegar as it had some dirt/ acid damage starting up. Looks ok now. Most solder joints underneath look ok. Some can be reflowed. I'll replace the caps and reflow the cold joints 1st

thanks guys

Wiggle every single part that is larger than a small resistor/diode to see if the solder points show any movement underneath. Very common to have a lot of cold solder along the back edge and in the corner behind the flyback...

Update- I reflowed all connections and recapped the chassis on the monitor then fired it up and I got a gray screen which was about half of the screen with lines running across it. So that said I have made no progress. I then broke out the digital meter and checked the switched supply as it will not get to 5v on the pcb but got 8.1v was the lowest it would go to. Time to replace it and see what happens next. I will also bring my working spare CC sprint board set with me too.

Will do thanks for the tips pldoolittlle. I do have a $500 solder gun too just needs a new air filter. I read your thread on the same issue as me and I will let ya know what else I find tomorrow after I toss in a working power supply and spare board set if needed.
