Hi

I just found a new U5000 27 inch monitor which I was thinking of installing in either my mortal kombat or MAME cabinet.

I do not know much about it. Is it a good monitor, and will it be compatible with mortal kombat games?

regards

Rodney

It is a dual-res monitor. It has some reliability issues, but if it's new and working now, by all means use it until it breaks. Or do the recommended updates to it and hope it doesn't ever break.

As for using it with the MK - MK is a standard-resolution (15k) game. There is a connector on the monitor chassis that can be moved between 15k (standard) and 25k (medium) resolution. Make sure it is on the proper setting (power off when changing it) before you hook it up to a game...

thankyou very much. I am already in contact with wells gardner. as soon as it arrives i will send the serial number to check if it already has the updates

Your buying a monitor from Wells-Gardner? I doubt it's a U5000, as they don't make it anymore....

probably gonna be one of those tri-syncs. I was thinking the same thing.

only refurbed item I saw on there, as of last year, was the D9200... and well, we know all about those.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. This is a NOS monitor in the UK. Since I am from Malta, europe, it is difficult for me to ship from the UK. and it is definetly a U5000

I hope it is a dual res monitor

It will be dual res for sure (so long as its a U5000) but its also a 27" monitor (according to your thread header). The MK series used 25" monitors. A 27" will fit but you may have to move the brackets or drill some holes.

Hi

sorry for bringing this up again, I am slow in my projects :).

I read that the U5000 does not need an isolation transformer. will it work correctly with 240Volts?

I actually posted in this thread 4 years ago. wow lol

the power supply on the chassis should be able to take any voltage and adapt from there. certainly don't quote me on that though. if you have the option I would just swap out the 240 transformer and put a 120 in its place.

this chassis also doesn't require an isolation transformer (due to above-mentioned switch mode power supply) so if you had a box type power supply and fed it 120V, you could actually interface the power plug from the monitor through the AC plug on the power supply. won't need any transformers at all then. of course, your marquee light would also have to tie into that power supply AC plug as well.

I think you know how to work your way around that stuff though.

Hi, thank you for your reply. Will it still work with an isolation switch though? Btw, in Malta we use 240v

Are Iso transformers still available for sale. read in some threads that it is still better to do one. can I find new?

Bob Roberts sells them. I got one from Happ last year for a cab I dropped a K7000 in.

Bob even has an article for installing one.

Do you have the links? Cannot find them. Did mk3 have an iso transformer?

U5000 does not need an iso. But make sure your chassis can take 240. Most cabs drop the 240 to 120 at the power supply and then send it to the monitor

Thankyou modessitt. I will take some photos and upload them so that you can guide me

Hey all,

to switch from 15khz to 25khz in aU5000, only the middle connector needs to move right? I read in another forum that there is another jumper on the right side near the deflectio IC, but cannot find it

lilman573 took some nice pictures of it. The white jumper with the blob of glue.

Trying to swap my war gods over to 15khz from 25khz.

I found the label on the side, but before i change anything i wanted to ask. Its a minty picture and I'd hate to blow a chassis because i didn't ask!

Is it as simple as just moving the white plug?

Thanks guys!!
