Finally getting back to the 720 project.

I had capped the monitor a few weeks ago. The colors still seemed off. Not sure what it was.

Tonight I turned it on, to take a look at it again, and all I hear is crackling when it turns on, then silence. No picture. Every time I turn it on, I hear the crackling, then nothing.

Seems like it's the flyback. Any ideas?

At least I got all the rat s*** out of it.

Flyback failure isn't common on these models, but it can happen. Measure the B+....

Thanks for the reply. Where is the test point?

It sort of sounds like electrical snaps a few times in succession and then nothing.

Do you see sparks jumping around the flyback? Turn out the light if you can't tell. if so, then the flyback is probably bad.

Or maybe you see them at the neck? Tube might be cracked.

The test point it is on the big white resistor on the left side...

I have nothing to add, other than moral support. Mine's dead too and after messing around replacing some missing transistors, I have up and sent it to Chad. At least it sounds like you have power some where. For $30 you can get the flyback from him at arcadecup.com or for an extra $100 on top of that he'll replace the flyback and fix everything else. I figured it just wasn't worth my messing around with it anymore. It's just killing me know because I have everything else restored now (all new sideart, etc.), I'm just waiting for my monitor to work and a few new Joystick parts...it's like eternal Christmas Eve at my house!
