Wells-Gardner 22V1003 or Monitor for Atari Football

I have been told that I could have a hairline crack in my tube on my Atari Football 4 player. The monitor is the Wells-Gardner 22V1003. My questions are: What are my options? Is there any alternative to this monitor I could use? Can this be fixed? Can I put in a donor tube? Can a color monitor be used in its place by connecting R/B/G wires together?( I was told this could be done but I am a little skeptical) Where can I send it if that is my last resort?

Thanks in advance for all the help and suggestions.

Have you tried putting a rejuvenator on the tube? The neck is the low point in that machine and any debris inside the tube will eventually find its way into the neck. A rejuvenator may burn off any internal shorts.

I am not sure what direction you are looking to go.

A rejuvenator is a tool that is designed to test CRTs. It can identify weak color guns as well as identify internal shorts. Once shorts are identified it can be used to try and burn off the short. Attempts can also be made to rejuvenate weak guns. They are fairly readily available on eBay. The B&K models are most common with the 467 and higher model numbers being the most suggested because of the documentation available and their versatility.

If you have no interest in buying another tool you can ask around to see if someone will let you borrow one. Local TV repair shops may still have one sitting on the shelf as well.

Chances are the tube is shot - for some reason I've heard this happening a lot with the 23in tubes.

I have a spare but was hanging onto it for my video pinball. They're around but few and far between. I'll keep my eye out though.
