I have a Wells Gardner 19" K7689 P447D chassis that keeps blowing the fuse (1.5A SB) on power up. The tube & chassis look to be in mint condition (just got the machine as non-working). Attached are pictures of the chassis. One of the pictures shows what looks like glue between a cap and the flyback. Could a bad flyback blow the fuse? or will the chassis just not have any power?

Any other ideas why the fuse is blowing? Also, would a regular K7000 chassis, say a P447 work with this tube/yoke?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Check C36 and C38, diodes 19-24. if any are shorted the fuse will blow.
also your H.O.T, VR and D18. A bad fly will also but you have a black nob fly it should have a good wile before it smokes

all theses common parts are common failure items on a K7000. and will make the fuse blow if any are bad.

Thanks Buffett

Could I use a regular P447 chassis with this tube/yoke? I have a spare that I would like to try.

I recently had two chassis that were blowing the main 2A fuse in my test rigs power section.

I tested continuity between the AC lines going into the chassis and there was a short. I think this is the first place to check. From there. I sent to the diodes first, to look for shorts.

You are never really sure till you lift a leg and then test it. Both chassis has blown diodes that where shorting.

Just wanted to update this thread....

A new flyback fixed the fuse blowing issue.

good deal. I have three of these and two flys were bad when I got them, I always look at the fly and HOT first when dealing with a blown fuse.
