I am the game tech for a family entertainment center (www.rascalsfunzone.com) and had a question, if anyone could help me out I would appreciate it!

We have a Time Crisis 3 that we've had for the past 5 years and have had very little problems. 2 years ago the right side monitor went out and I replaced with a wells 2792 not problems everything worked great (wired sync to composite). Then last week the left side went out and the monitor we picked up was a wells 2798 wired up the same way turned on nothing worked just blank screen not even the No Input signal, I looked around and swapped the jumper from standard to interlaced and picture came on everything looks perfect. The problem I have is the gun doesn't work it thinks it's constantly shooting out of the screen during calibration.

I called my distributor who said he didn't think a digital monitor would work but it works fine in the other side.

Any suggestions?

How's the overall screen brightness/contrast ?
Is it comparable to the other side ?
Have you tried the gun from the other side by any chance ?

Looks great in comparison to the other side and no I have not tried the other gun yet. I will give that a shot to see what happens.

Swapped the guns no luck. I adjusted the brightness and contrast and tried different combinations with no luck.

This is the first I have heard of a gun not working with a specific monitor (wells gardner at least).

The other problem is there is no information on the monitor anywhere including their website it just lists up to the 9600 series.

Looks like I will have to swap it out with another game that doesn't have guns (I have a conversion cabinet with silverstrike in it with a 9200 series wells) if I can't figure this out.

Should I contact Namco tech support or Wells tech support on Monday?

Does the screen flash and all that jive when you shoot ?

So ones a D9200 and the other is a D9800 ?
I would think they should both work. The 9200 is the one I believe that was plagued with problems, the later ones were "fixes" for those. (my understanding of it anyways)
I've seen information on the D9800's somewhere before, but I'll be danged if I can find it now.

Is the D9800 a flat tube? It wouldn't happen to have some type of coating on the tube, would it?

It doesn't flash but the screen shows "Off Screen"

Normally the box will come with at least something but this is the first time there was nothing inside it.

Try turning the brightness up higher than it should be and see if that makes a difference. Also, check the +5 on your gun. If it is low to that gun, then it might cause this problem. Switching the guns just verifies the opto, not the voltage to the gun...

No coating on the screen.

Yes it is a flat screen.

My distributor said everything is going flat now and that it shouldn't be a problem. I guess something is.

It is just a weird problem.

Oh and I answered wrong about the screen flashing. I have only been testing on the calibration screen that's why it says "Off Screen" instead of flashing like it normally would.

Turn the brightness up, put the gun right up against the screen, and see if you cna get it to register...

I just walked out and tried that again and i get nothing.

thinking its not monitor related and maybe a problem with the game?

I appreciate everyone trying to help. This stuff always happens just before the weekend when it's going to be busy and we can't get ahold of tech support . . .

Will the video input cable reach from one side to the other ?
Will the right gun reach the left screen enough to just see an onscreen reaction ?

Use the right side video cable plugged into the left monitor.
Shoot the left screen with the right gun if possible, leaving it plugged into the right side as normal.
(trying to verify if a board issue basically)

This thread needs switched to game repair not monitor. I spoke with Namco tech support and verified that the game will work fine with flat panel and digital monitors and the problem must be in the board.

It started having problems with booting up yesterday as well on the same side so I am checking for proper voltage to logic board and it could be causing gun issues as well if it's low.

Do the guns plug into a I/O board before going to the computer?
