I will be going back to college in January to learn more about electronics. It has been 20 years since I last started college! I will only be taking one class at the community college, but it is still a start.

I really should go back full time to learn a new trade as I don't think the Printing Industry is going to get any better. :(

That's great man. Good luck. Being that electronics has come as far as it has over the past 20 years, do you think that anything you'll learn will be of use from a fixing games standpoint?

What school in our area actually offers any courses on electronics? All I could find was DeVry and that was like going back to high school.

Since I am in Will county it is JJC. I would have gone to COD in DuPage county as it is closer and has better class times. But I would have been out of district and classes would have cost more then double! I'll try JJC out for the 8 week class and see how it goes. I am taking: Electronic Soldering and Circuit Board Rework & Repair. I haven't soldered since high school. :001_ssuprised:

My last stint at college was for Printing Production Management (Bachelor Degree)

I wish I was doing what you're doing. Congrats on going back. I got a diploma in Machine Tool and Die 15 years ago; which is fine but I wish I would've done electronics, too. Maybe after my kids get a little older.

Well I had my 1st class yesterday. Each one is 5hrs long. For those in Chicago area, JJC isn't too bad. Material is older, but teacher is good. He didn't make class seem like it was 5hrs. After this class I may look at other classes that will help me in this hobby. Plus it gets me out of the house more often too. :p

Good for you Zud.. any education you can get in this economy is a great thing to do. The job market is still a wreck, I don't care what CNN says.

Keep us posted! You may end up finding some other game owners in that class too!

Holy cow!

Five hours is a long time for a class- especially if it's after work or something.

Good for you though- personal enrichment is a perfect reason for getting back into a class.

I recently got my associates in IT and.... still cant find a job. The market really sucks I may end up going back to school if I cant find a job soon. electronics seems like fun mayb I should give it a shot.

I am strictly doing this for the hobby. Well maybe I will do side jobs, but I am dedicated to my main job, Senior Estimator.

Don't worry about the material being older. Electrons have not changed over the years. Also the older material is more relevant for repairing the "classics".
