This has been going on since I first got it, and I figured it was just the way it works, but now I REALLY doubt it. If it is, then Sega went crazy when they made the game.
Everytime I turn on the machine, the left side boots up fine, as does the right side's marquee. The left side then says it's searching for the Slave unit (side two) as usual. But the second side NEVER turns on.
After much trial and error, I have learned that the only thing to do is to unplug the cables connecting the unit in the order big plastic-tipped cable, optical cable, small plastic-tipped cable, and then replug them in the order big plastic-tipped cable, optical cable, small plastic-tipped cable. The plastic tip cable then sparks internally (I can see it flash and the plastic has looked charred since I got it, so it's not a new occurrence) and suddenly with a loud "NEE-ERNK" electrical noise, the fan starts turning and the other monitor clicks on. The boards finish linking and it runs fine. Oddly enough, having the cables unplugged and plugging them in after its turned on doesn't seem to work. Also, turning it on/off by flipping the switch or plugging/unplugging it doesn't make a difference, the problem remains.
But, when I move this to its permanent location and bolt the units together, I'm not going to be able to roll them apart and get behind them to go through this tedious routine every single time I turn on the machine for the day. It's really annoying, and I'm pretty sure I'm not SUPPOSED to have to do this. Any clue what's wrong with it, and how to fix it?
