I'm looking at my board trying to figure out why SMB VS isn't working and noticed my board is different than any I've seen. It has a riser connected vi the PPU and CPU slots. Any ideas?

Looks like it has the daughterboard for Vs. Super Sky Kid or Vs. Freedom Force.

Can't tell from the pics if you have the rest of the necessary SMB roms, but you do have the PPU.

If you remove the daughterboard, then populate the SMB PPU and correct roms on the right hand side of the PCB, it should fire up if everything is installed carefully & correctly and if the board works. 🙃

That's a rather rare daughterboard if memory serves, but I'm stuck in like 2018 on these and haven't owned one in years. 🤔 I've certainly never seen that daughterboard!

Oh! And pull those batteries.
They're known to leak & kill boards. 😬

Lots of info here! 🕹️🙃

There are many possible reasons why it isn't working, but it's probably not the daughter card that has the issue. It would appear that SMB is loaded correctly, as it is only meant to run properly on the 1-2 side of the PCB.

First thing I would do is reseat the daughter board fully, as well as the chips and PPU, then I would try a different CPU. If still the same issue, odds are one of the EPROMs is bad. Some people on the site can burn you a new set to try.

Incorrect. With that daughtercard installed, it will not use the EPROMs on the main board.

I've got VS Pinball on mine, works just fine. Unless SMB is unique in a different way other than the requirement to be on the 1-2 side, why wouldn't it work?

It works, but I believe there's like some speed delays, for example in the animation at the end of the 1-1 world when there are too many things on the screen. At least that's how it was on mine. So keep it on right side.

I'm not familiar with that particular daughtercard, but they usually run code from the PRG1/2 sockets on the card. Seems odd that it would not block access to the ROM bank on the main board… but you have it working, so it must be so. The daughtercard might be interfering with the shared CMOS RAM access, which would cause SMB not to work.

First, wow and thank you! All of you! It is Super Sky Kid. I don't know this was a daughter's board. I thought daughters boards only were on one side. SMB "worked" according to the previous owner. Maybe it's something simple. I'm back home with the cabinet in a few weeks and will get deeper. Right now, it's sitting in my trailer with me about 1400 miles from home. I want to dig deep and do a full restore. I'm super bummed that only Super Sky Kid is working, but maybe that's a good thing?

Are there simple tests for a blue screen? Is it possible it's just some QD connectors?

Try this...I've been through dozens of these boards. It's USUALLY either the daughter board/EPROM chips isn't seated right, the CPU went bad, or one of the EPROMS went bad.
