I installed my spare monitor into my Ms Pac tonight. Got the monitor from a trashed Gorf.

Got a GREAT picture, all colors nice and sharp but...at the end of the 2nd round as soon as "they meet" starts....the picture fades to black. But as soon as the 3rd round starts (blue maze) the picture comes right back up.

any ideas?

Yes, every time. As soon as the 2nd round ends and the "they meet" clip starts the screen fades out, then comes back when round 3 starts. Every time.

Not sure if its something with the monitor and the screen at that time being mostly black? Or if its a video problem on the board.

outside of that...the game plays great.

weird.

This is a real longshot: considering what is being "drawn" during those scenes, the "they meet" scene is focused mainly in the middle of the screen.

That could indicate that your horizontal oscillator is at the very edge of adjustment, and maybe without as much work (deflection distance) for that circuit to do during that scene, it's entering HV x-ray shutdown protection and then recovering once a full image is presented in the next board.

That's the first thing that comes to mind, measure your B+ and see what it's normally running at.

Just a thought... PacMan has a rack advance setting from the dip switch - I think that Ms. Pac should have one also. Set the rack-advance switch to on and watch the screen as it advances through the levels to see if you get the same problem, and to see if the problem repeats for higher levels. It might make it more clear if this is a monitor or a board issue.

Update

Well...I hooked the Ms. Pac up to my Galaga monitor and the problem went away. "They Meet" "The Chase" "baby" all show up fine. So I guess its the monitor.

Also, My sister in law is babysitting the game for me untill I get more room in the garage to start restoring the cabinet. She called me the other day to tell me that after the game is on for about an hour...the cut scenes start showing up as they should.
