hey everyone,
recently i purchased a namco 25th anniversary "counter-top" cabaret from ebay which was listed as new (here's a pic of it being sold on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Limited-25th-Anniversary-Countertop-Cabinet/dp/B000X4ENIS/ref=pd_sbs_sg_1). Today when i opened it up and tested it for the first time, it appeared that everything was in working order except for one thing -- i immediately noticed that the in-game colors seemed a bit strange. For example, in pacman/ms pacman, "pinky" the pink ghost appeared as a white ghost and clyde (normally orange) appeared as a very light orange (almost white). in galaga, the enemy ships appear more teal/pastel than what i had previously encountered in arcades. After reading the whole menu and searching the "test" system options for a color config option (there is none) and disputing with my roommate over whether or not the colors should be more like the original games, out of curiosity, i called up namco to find out if i had, in fact, received a lemon. overall, they were pretty unhelpful. besides doing the "monitor align" option (which shows a bunch of white grid bars -- this apparently was correct to the technician on the phone), i was told that i had to find a 25th anniversary machine somewhere and see if the colors looked different than the colors on my machine. Since i couldn't find any actual screenshots or gameplay videos of the machine i have, i figured i would turn to the true enthusiasts who may have worked with one of these first-hand
i've attached some close-up photos i took of the screen to illustrate what i'm talking about (these are very accurate to how it actually looks when i view my game screen):
i guess what i'm wondering is, if i do in fact have a lemon, what can i do about this? Is there an easy way to fix the weird colors myself? if not, can anyone recommend any repair shops in NYC that might be able to service the machine?
also, i'm pretty sure that since i bought the machine from ebay and i was not the original owner, the 90 day warranty is void (if it hasn't already expired) even though i still have the warranty card.
thanks so much for your advice/help in advance!!!
