Weird 29" Makvision monitor issue that boggles my mind.

We just got a Fast and the Furious yesterday. When my friend went to pick it up he said it had a rainbow effect on the screen. I told him it was probably just needed degaussing or the yoke was loose or something. I get it in to look at it and turn it on to this:

Not only is there a rainbow effect but it looks like something is blocking part of the picture. It didn't look that way he picked it up just the rainbow. He was very careful when he moved it. He didn't drop it. To me it looks like a projection tv would look with something blocking the picture. I've never seen this before in a CRT. Is this a fixable thing or is it shot. It has to be something inside the tube, right?
It says on the flyback shroud that it is a 29" chassis model C3129DFTS.

Note: The previous owner was a bit of an "undereducated individual" and had admitted he tried to fiddle around to get the rainbow to go away without any knowledge in how monitors work.

Any help would be appreciated.

The 'shadow' looks like the inside of a Yoke assembly. Did you check the inside of the yoke yet? Otherwise it looks like part of the crt gun assembly has 'fallen' down inside the vacuum, or indeed some part of the mask has become loose and fallen in front of the gun assembly.

I've never seen the mask become loose. I did see the mask move on a TV that was bumped in a corner, and it became 'bent' as in the lines had a bowing effect in it that could not be corrected.

It is a first for me. I really don't feel the desire to go to far into fixing it. It's from a The Fast and The Furious: Drift and as opposed as I am of replacing CRT's with LCD's, I think I'll make an exception for this one.
