Hey guys. Recently I did a review of the Wei-Ya Universal 25" replacement chassis. It provides a great picture on a Polo tube, but for some reason, on mine the image is really "wavy." I think it might be a B+ issue, but I have no idea where to measure it or what it's supposed to be set to.

Anyone know more about these chassis' and what causes the issue I'm having? Here is a video for reference. Thanks!

Looks to me like the main B+ filter capacitor is putting out too much ripple.

Or else your video signal wire is being run too close to ac power wires and the video cable is picking up 60 cycle hum.

Also, just for the heck of it, disconnect the degausser connector to see if the hum goes away.

if you have an esr meter i would check all the caps to see if they are all good or not. (yes i realize they are supposed to be brand new).

that is also a sign of ac getting into the dc supply sometime caused by bad caps.

those chassis were built cheap so who knows you could have bad new caps.

otherwise i have no idea where to test or adjust the B+ on those chassis.

i would ask ken layton he is the guru when it comes to the wei way chassis.

Peace

Zeno, I dont mean to piss in your cheerios but read my sig.

FWIW, I agree with Ken. One easy way to isolate the problem would be to pull the video signal from the monitor and slightly turn up the screen control until you get a raster image. Watch the image closely for the ripples. If it still does it then your probably looking at a monitor problem or the Isolation transformer (or some other transformer) is to close to the monitor.

If not then your looking at the supplied signal being the cause (probably power supply in the game).

Dont mean to be blunt and I'm not poking fun at your problem but these Chinese monitors are S***.

I've got a less then 2 week old Makvision in a Big Buck Hunter thats already failed. Sucks...

Thanks guys. The ISO is on the bottom of the cab. Not even close to the monitor. The A/C lines DO run along the same bundle as the video input wires, so I'll separate them and see what happens. I'll also try the raster as suggested. Thanks again. I'll report back.

It's only really noticeable during the game selection menu. When playing a game, you have to actually look to notice it.

Ok, so here is an update.

I cut all the wires loose from the zip ties. The monitor's power wires, the marquee power wires and the RGBGS are all separated and not touching any other wires....still wavy.

Disconnected the RGBGS, turned up the screen pot until I got raster....NOT wavy. Hmmm.

Hooked everything back up and turned the B+ pot to the left about 1/4 turn (I assume left was to decrease)....still wavy.

So at this point, I wanted to re-install the Sharp monitor that used to be in there because I don't remember it being wavy. I simply left the universal Wei-Ya in there because it looked so good. I proceeded to remove the Wei-Ya and reinstalled the Sharp....NOT wavy?

Just to see if it WAS indeed an issue with the Wei-Ya, I removed my test bench monitor and hooked up the Wei-Ya....NOT wavy!?

It appears that there is something with the Neo cab that the Wei-Ya doesn't like. My guess...

(probably power supply in the game).

Did you ever get this resolved.

@Glenwis2 Sorry about the cranky members above.

Instead of posting in years old threads, it is better to send a private message to the OP. Often times, the OP isn't active anymore in a thread that is so old. (Zeno is in this case, but Zeno might still not remember about a chassis he was working on 10 years ago.)

If you get a response/update, please post that. If not, we don't have a super old thread bumped back up.

Good luck with your repair.

I was actually trying to avoid the "that's been answered already use the search button"response when asking a redundant question. guess not. Thanks though I will follow your advice going forward.
