I picked this up Saturday in Nashville. It's the last video game that was on my A-List, so I'm done traveling for these type of games.

Got it home and put the boards back in it, replaced the frayed AC cable and fired it up. After adjusting the monitor it looks great.

The periscope needs to have the bearings replaced and some broken screws fixed on it. I also need to cut a back door and get the explosion lights working on it to complete it.

Still looking for a Midway Haunted House EM rifle game and a Strikes and Spares pinball to finish the A-List stuff.

jealous. that's one on my list too, and in very nice condition. the ones i've seen come up lately seem to be missing the step at the bottom.

Yea it's nice! But I'm used to stuff that's spent years stored in heat, humidity, and had critters of some sort inside it.

So it's strange not to have to strip one down to clean it first. Or that any area that doesn't have paint on it isn't rusted or corroded.

I love that game. One came up for sale locally a few weeks back, but I had to pass since I just blew my cash on another game. Congrats on the pickup. - Barry

Wow! that is really nice. I played that more times than I could tell you when I was a kid! ;) Awesome find you have there!

It's a great game. GorfChampion restored and sold me one that was *almost* working. Alex at Elktron Forge just finished repairing the boards last week and they should be in my meat hooks today. I cannot wait to fire this baby up. I first played this in the summer of '81 or '82 at the old Noah's Ark supper Club about 10 miles from where I grew up. They had a bar/lounge in what would be the wheelhouse (upper level) of this huge ship building (The Sea Wolf sat at the end of the bar, just about directly across the room from the access door you see at the left near the upper bow):

The next time I played it was 2010 at Gorfchampion's party. 28 years and I still remembered the sounds like it was yesterday. Great score.

Believe it or not, it was actually purchased for my wife. It one of the two games she's asked for over the years. The other being Gyruss.

So it's worth the time and effort to get it into good playing condition.

This was the first one that showed up that was not over 18 hours drive in each direction. So it was relatively close considering the other options.

I've started pulling the periscope apart, so hopefully I can get it repaired over the weekend. Then I have to figure out what's wrong with the explosion lights.

From Alex Yeckley:

Me:

BTW, as to fixing my explosion lights when I score a hit, is
that a CPU board issue, or an issue with the interface pcb
that hooks into the lights?

Him:
The transistors that control those bulbs were all shot. Those were replaced
during the repair process. I'd hope that the problem is now corrected. My
advice would be to use the lowest-output bulbs you can tolerate in order to
keep those transistors alive for as long as possible.

Thanks for the heads-up on the explosion fix. I'll look there right after checking to make sure bulbs are actually in place behind the plastic strip.

Elektron Forge gets the boards if they end up having problems. They fixed a couple of other game boards for me that are both working great after several years of use.

Thanks again,

-JM
