I was checking CL Saturday morning and stumbled on an ad for a free asteroids cocktail. I made the call and was the first caller, I headed out to pick it up. I was only about a 20 minute drive and when I got there I asked how long they'd had it. The father proceeds to tell me his 26 year old son still living at home brought it home. He told his son he didn't want it in his garage and he had 2 weeks to get rid of it and that was 3 months ago.

It's in pretty good shape. Someone decided to paint all the woodgrain green. I started removing the paint to reveal the wood grain in great shape underneath. I'll need to order the underlay and get a new piece of glass for it. The cp's are excellent and I'll just replace the buttons. It powers up and plays except the screen is squished up into the top of the screen. I tested the monitor in a local SMAC member's Asteroids Deluxe and it worked fine so I have a board issue.

With Dokerts and a couple others help I ordered the parts that should fix it. All in all not bad for free! - Barry

Asteroids was my first vector, but it was the upright. It's a great game, and people are still pretty impressed with how cool vector monitors look.

Well if that landed on ebay OZ , it would have a min of $500.00 on it

so for free ? you did perfectly !!

I got the green paint all off and the wood grain looks just fine. I got some chips that people smarter than me thought may fix my issue, but alas it did not. I'm going to take it to repair guru Dick Millikan next week to get it checked out. Once I have a working board I'll buy some new buttons, a new piece of glass and an underlay from arcadeshop. Can't wait to get it working and in the house. - Barry

Were any of the chips you replaced the ones that controll the x-y output?

It was the 3 near the y =pot. an 081, 082 and I can't remember the other one. I wish I were better at reading schematics and understanding how it worked. - Barry

Finally got this in the house. Thanks to Dick Millikan for fixing the pcb. I got an underlay from Arcadeshop and a new piece of tempered glass locally and she looks great. I'll replace the buttons next time I place a Bob Roberts order..... - Barry

nice! i wish i had the room to have kept the Deluxe i got cheap off of CL but alas, the cocktails eat up too much floor space.

Awesome find.

My first was Asteroids also, great game.

I scored an Asteroids Cocktail also, for $250.00, right after a mate scored one for the $240.00 in Aus
He fixed his c/tail, I have not yet

All the best fixing it up. :)
