Ok, I picked up a Mania Challenge recently off the ol` Craigs List. Got it dirt cheap. Let's just say that day at work I had to decide whether to spend my lunch money on food or this game. Anyways, nothing worked. Same story you see a ton here on the forums except for once it's me. Anyways, all it needed was a new power supply and a couple fuses here and there an whoosh.. It's Alive!!!

Ok, it's not a super fantastic find of a game but I really enjoy reading other people's threads on thier weekend buys and such. I enjoy the pics everyone posts as well. So here are some pics of my lunch special. I forgot how much fun this game was and I really like the moves list cards. I did a couple new moves I haven't done before.

I loved this game (and its predecessor, Mat Mania) when I was a kid. Still do. I actually bought in the late 90's (and still own) the boards for both games so I can legally play them in MAME. :)

I have a NOS moves list card for it somewhere - yours looks a little dirty. if I can ever find It I'll scan it unless it's already been archived somewhere. Seems like mine is horizontal but maybe I'm remembering wrong.

I think mine will clean up nice.. They are not paper.. The are printed on a vinyl like material similar to control panel vinyl. Soft damp cloth should clean them up nicely.

Nice score. I haven't played that game in about 20 years. Probably the first player vs. player wrestling game released. I have fond memories of this game from BITD. The counter moves was a cool feature, as well as hitting your opponent with a dropkick.

What really is the differance? The single player mode in mania challenge seems to be the same to me.. same fighters etc.. I just thought that mania challenge was the same game with an added 2 player vs option. Am I wrong to think this??

I always though Exciting Hour (Mat Mania), the 1p game was alot better.

That's the only added feature. The game doesn't offer much on a 1-player standpoint. If I remember correctly, the only opponents you have are the look-alike (they both have names), Insane Warrior and Golden Hulk? It's much better of a game when it's played head-to-head.

Exciting Hour was the first, you played againt 5 opponents in this order. Insane Warrior, Karate Fighter, Coco Savage, The Piranah and Bloody Blues.

I grew up playing the original, once I tried the sequel and I though the added reversal moves were lame, I also find this game better suited as a one player game. I like the gameplay better on Exciting Hour. Didn't the music change for the worst as well?

Booooo... I just did some reading and discovered that the sequel Mania Challenge only had 2 opponents from the original. Insane Warrior and Blues Bloody. You fight those 2 and your clone over and over, no wonder I though the original was better.
It seems like Mania Challenge was only made to have a 2P simultaenous game, strange they would remove over half of the computer opponents.

I'm with you.. I'm a bit disapointed now.. Oh well, I can't really complain too much. I got it at a good price.

I'm sure i'm bias since I grew up with Exciting Hour at my local arcade. I only played Mania Challenge a couple times in different arcades outside my hometown. I use to play Exciting Hour on one quarter for hours, I think I got pass round 60. I remember when it first appeared at the arcade nobody for a day or so could beat the first opponent.
