I remember hearing nothing but bad things about arcades and video games when I was a kid. ie waste of money, bad for your eyes, makes you more aggressive, blah blah blah... Well, my children have been basically RAISED in an arcade (since we have one on site now), and these have been my observations:
1. my kids have learned their numbers VERY quickly, to be able see if they beat your high score with theirs
2. they know what a number is up into the THOUSANDS
3. they understand money to some extent, and realize the concept of "no money, no game" for those that aren't set to free play
4. the hand eye coordination is already there, even with my son who's 2!
5. rudimentary arithmetic
6. my daughter understands how the coin goes down in the coin door and trips the switch to make the game start. she also knows what circuit boards and other various components are at age FIVE
7. the same daughter can log onto Windows XP to kick off MAME to play PP!
I'm sure I've observed more, and I'm sure all of you have too so, post what you've seen in your children where your games have BENEFITTED them! DOWN WITH THE PESSIMISTS!! LOL
