Water 1; Basement Arcade - 0

Water is bad frickin' news. I know all about it. You live life on the edge when you do a basementcade. For sure. We had 48" of snow melt here, do the math.

Good luck, bro! I hope it all works out.

Update

Just an update as I had some inquiries.

Everything is cleaned up, and for the most part, everything is dry now. Took about a week to get everything cleaned up, dried out, and put back in place.

All the machines work and all in all, the videos received relatively little damage considering how much water we got,. The only games that had water INSIDE them were the two System 1 machines.. They are dry now, and at least at first glance don't seem to have any swelling that I could tell.

The floor seems to have taken the biggest hit. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the flooring is warped and buckled at the joints. Not horrendous, but I see it all. I had some prople over last night and if I had not pointed out all the flaws thay likely would nto have thought anything of it.

The most obvious damage is at the support poles. The MDF that our contractor wrapped the poles in warped pretty badly.

These pics were taken less than an hour ago. All in all it's still pretty good down there, for which I am very lucky and thankful.

I would like to thank everyone for their support, encouragement, and offers for help. It really reminded me what a great community this is.

Thanks again!

Glad to hear that the games and pins are basically okay. I can totally relate to your situation. My games are all in the basement too and a few years ago the damn washing machine, which is upstairs, leaked and water made it down to the basement via some of the duct work. My Red Baron cockpit suffered some fairly minimal water damage to the back door. My 6 player X-Men got a little wet, but not any lasting damage. I was up til 4 am I think doing whatever I could to dry the games out.

If the System 1 cabs look like they may have sucked a little water inside, it might be a good idea to dampen a rag with bleach and run it across the bottom and sides up to the water line. They will wick up the bleach just like they did the water and that will keep mold from forming.

I did this with the one cab I dealt with that had sucked water. It was already kind of stinky, so I used Kilz primer on the inside after the bleach dried. This required pulling the stuff out of the base, but it never stank after that.

man, that sucks. I have been there. however long you think to dry your games add at least another day. My ms pacs bottom stayed wet for over week with a fan directly on it, so give it as much time as you can. If you dont get em dry, they will mold up on you and thats no fun.

Thanks for the idea. I already hit them with some spray bleach on the bottoms. I think they are okay but I will watch them in the next week or so to see if they need another hit :)

Wow, now THAT makes me sad :( Sorry you had issues as well. That looks like some serious flooding there

I have a "dampness" meter and everything seems pretty good now, but I am keeping the games open (front doors on the system 1's, back doors on the others) for another week to be certain. Liek you said, we don't want them to mold up on us.

I would also like to take a moment to thank EagleTG. As you may now, I store some of his working machines in my basement. He has been a good friend for a long time, and he was the first person I called when this happened. Instead of freaking out on me, he asked if he could help, and said (honestly) that he was not worried about his games. I told him of the System 1's getting some water to which he said "No worries, just get it dried out, it was already rough anyway" This went a huge way in calming me down during the situation, as his stuff was ALL that I was worried about at the time.

Thanks Todd for keeping level headed for me :)

I'm sure this was probably mentioned, but you could also put one a damp rid in each cab. It should help get any moisture out as well.

sorry to hear this happened chris. on the bright side, at least the vids didn't get hit terribly bad. that's the one thing that pins have going for in this type of situation - metal legs.

Very sorry to hear about the water. Glad it was minimal. I have been there as well. Nothing worse that water and basement issues.

I'm still not worried about my games. I have no better place to put them, and appreciate you offering me "free storage". The fact that the free storage is both climate and humidity controlled is a huge benefit. And the games get turned on and played once in a while, makes it even better. :)

First off, I knew the "risks". I live in the same town, my basement floods all the time. It's a curse of this area. You have all of the proper equipment, and have done all of the right things to try and prevent this issue. I trust in what you've done to prevent these kind of issues. Second, what right would I have to freak out or anything (remember, this storage is FREE for me), and really, what good would that do? You're right, we've been friends forever, and that outweighs any game. Losing my cool would only stress the friendship, it wouldn't remove any damage from the games, or change the situation in the least.

Also, you have far more at stake than the games. You have a beautifully finished basement that you've spent huge amounts of time and money getting together. The water could be far more damaging to that investment (flooring, walls, pillars, etc.) than to a few crappy games.

I'm glad everything seems to have worked out well, but am sorry to see the damage to the basement flooring and pillars.

Edit: I also know the games are better-off in your basement than they are in my garage (no climate control) or basement (a million reasons).
