Man, the number of arcade games shown sitting outdoors throughout this movie is staggering. The final shot of the SEGA Outrun, outside, all by itself just stunned me. I'm like: "Honey, I have that very game downstairs! WTF? Wow!!" She says: "Like they would just put them outside against the wall like you would a pop machine. Wouldn't they get damaged in the weather?" "Yes they would honey, yes they would, you're learning." I said. What a great movie. I wanted to watch it again, just to pause it during the arcade shots to identify the games.

Great movie. I never realized there were so many arcade games in Big until after I started collecting. I like the Pinbot he gets in his studio apartment. When they stop by the arcade shop to find Zoltar, you can see a bunch of Nintendo cabinets and such. Really cool. :)

then theres thew shot when they just started looking for "zoltar" and theyre at that coin op shop with like 10 games out front.. poretty cool.

another movie is casino.. at ons point theyre behind a arcade and theres like 100 pinball machines out back there in the background.. makes me kinda sad...

I almost posted something about this a few weeks ago. It came on HBO REEEEEAL early in the morning and I caught it. Of course you cant help but notice all of those 'cades at the begining when he first finds the zoltar. Go Defender!

Btw...Where's the Williams cabs Phet? I bet a Minty Defender or Sinistar would look sweeeet in the space room.

Traded my nice Sinistar for the Burgertime a few months back. I am happy with the trade, but I kinda wish I had a Sini too.

I hear ya. Im not much of a Burgertime fan myself, but a good trade nonetheless. I like sinistar but its not my fav williams.

I always liked the scene at the carnival where he first makes his wish and he walks past a huge row of games. Watching it now I cringe at the thought anyone would have games setup outside like that.

Yeah that's the only thing I can think about as I watch the scene at the end. Arcade cabs are wood, not metal like soda machines. Is it even possible for a cab to keep working after a decent rain sitting out like that? Didn't Outrun have a fan near the top of the cab for the water to get in? Couldn't rain seep between the bezel and the screen or something of the sort? It's been almost two years since I've owned one.

I keep telling myself it's just a movie and they don't really do that.

In that scene you can tell that the kids aren't really playing the games because the attract mode screens are clearly visible on several of the games. Still very cool though.

Yeah, seems almost weird in today's world. But that's the way it used to be.

I need to watch this movie again. I haven't watched it all the way through in probably ten years.

great film. After seeing it for the first time as a kid, I thought that being a toy tester would be the best job in the world. I wrote up a letter and had my parents send it out to all the big toy makers (Mattel, Hasbro, etc.) Most of them just sent back a letter that they appreciated my letter but did all of their toy testing in house, living in rural Iowa made me nowhere close to any of them. But one company mailed me a big box full of toys that were in development at the time. The only one that I can remember anymore was an action figure that was Wild Western style sherrif but from outer space. he was about the size of the original G.I. Joe figures, and had some sort of "quick draw" action in his gun hand. It was super cool to get some toys out of it, and all I did was play with them and then I sent another letter to the company saying what I liked and what I didn't like about the toys. It was rad! And all becasue of the movie Big.

When they are unloading the Pinbot you can see some converted cabs inside the truck. Pretty sure one was a converted Stargate.

And as for games sitting outside, there used to be an old guy who ran a Putt-Putt her in Austin that used to have a couple arcade games that sat outside (under a roof) all the time. I remember playing Elevator Action there a couple times (as an adult). This was in the mid-90's. Hell, nowadays I'd probably sneak in there in the middle of the night and haul the EA off. But this was before i ever got into arcades-in-the-home, and never really thought twice about it....

Yeah, I remember an ice cream place near me had a centipede, and they just had a little garden type shed it was kept in, so they could close the door at night, but other than that, it was pretty much outside.
