I've always liked this little mini-episode called The Bishop of Battle. This episode is around 25 minutes. It came from a collection of shorts in a movie called Nightmares from 1983. The Bishop of Battle stars a young Emilio Estevez who hustles people by playing video games so he can earn money to try and beat his favorite game, a fictional one called The Bishop of Battle. It gives a peek into 2 different arcades. I saw a ton of classics in this show. It would be cool if someone could compile every classic that appears in this episode.

I have put this episode online in its entirety for all my KLOV bretheren to watch.

Anyways, without further ado...

I think someone was trying to make an actual game based on what was in the movie, I don't think they've completed it as of yet though.

I think the hardest part would be having the cabinet put itself back together after it blew apart. That would be harder than you getting sucked into the game I think.

I thought the name was pretty lame perhaps Decon of Disaster, Cardinal of Carnage, or Acolyte of Attack would have been better

Cool, thanks for posting that! I had seen the Bishop of Battle on Youtube a few months back but had almost forgot about it. I remember hearing that the computer effects used in this game almost bankrupted the project.

Games that I saw in the first arcade:

Tron
Zaxxon
Frogger
Slither
Defender (x2)
Pac Man (x2)
Galaxian (x3)
Vanguard
Pleiades
(I heard Donkey Kong in the background but never saw it)
Black Knight Pinball
Burgertime
Joust
Asteroids
Monaco GP
Atari Football ?
Space Encounters ?
Kick

I saw all those in the first one and I also saw a Ms Pac next to the Pac-Man machines. There was a Jungle hunt in the background too. I believe the cocktail was an Atari Football.

In the other arcade I saw:
Berzerk
Starhawk
Venture
Asteroids Deluxe
Rip Off
Asteroids (at least 3, maybe 5)
Missile Command
Pleiades (x2)
Scramble
Explorer

Thanks for posting the episode!

Thanks for posting that. I always enjoyed that portion of the movie. Wasn't the movie called Cat Eyes or some such...?

Tom

Yeah Cat's Eyes was also a collection of short stories but it wasn't the same film. The other stories Nightmares had were about a Priest being stalked by a demonic pickup truck, a women going to get a pack of cigarettes while a psycho is loose, and a family being terrorised by strange intelligent rat.

I like both films but I think Creepshow has them beat! :D

While he is playing there is the Uni-Wars cabinet right behind him. It's orange, i have one and have been trying to find a PCB for it forever, i would like to save the cabinet.

The game was remade by Dr Vance here in Dallas. Out of a battle Zone cabinet. Never got to play the game I heard it gave you carpel tunnel after 10 Mins. It is at the fun Spot, I think. Which is where the Dr Shot the Remake of BOB belied it was call Avatar Of the Unseen.

Off Subject this is the same collector that made the Last Star Fighter. Nice vid brings back Good Memories.

Love the carpet in the mall arcade when they kick the kid off the game. Wish I had the room for a 2 level arcade.

Who of us hasn't beat the bishop a few times? Did I hear the Dig Dug coin up sound when he started Bishop?

THe name is obviously modeled after Wizard of Wor, right?

Plays blind and tends to implode at the 13th level. Who will gimme 500? Come on. I'm sure it's just a fuse!

I saw a "Galaxy" pin and also think I saw a "Black Hole" one.

Also, cool to see where Schusler's avatar came from that he had up forever!

EDIT: Ms Pac next to the Pac Man machines at 1:14

So I looked it up today, and it would appear that the dude speaking as the Bishop of Battle is actually the guy who, in Back to the Future, says "McFly!!! You're a SLACKER!!!" After you know who it is, you can hear it in the voice. :D

Also, there is an Explorer game in this movie clip, as another mentioned in this thread. Does anyone know of any screenshots of this game? It's apparently pretty rare, and there it is, sitting in this movie! Too cool.
