Just wondering if there ever was a Qbert cabaret made? I've seen some custom cabinets made, but did it ever officially exist?

And how much smaller were cabarets from full size cabinets? 15% 20% smaller? I'm in the process of building a new Qbert and would like to build a scale size cabaret of the cabinet. Just need the measurements of the cabaret.
Any suggestions?

There was no production cabaret made. Someone here built a custom mini Qbert, but I forget who, and can't find the thread. I'm sure someone will chime in.

I know. I just spent like 10 minutes looking for that thread, and can't find the frikkin thing.

I think it might have been mentioned in another unrelated thread (as opposed to a dedicated build thread). And the stupid spelling variations make it a pain to search. Someone will know though, in 3, 2, 1....

On that spelling thing, Google has a much better search engine, so you can search on JUST this site by typing something like this:

site:https://forums.arcade-museum.com q*bert

If it's a problem for you all the time, just bookmark those results then you can change the search term when you need to search for something.

Ah, right. That sucks about the pics.

(Also FYI, remove that styleid tag from your link, as it changes the style for anyone who views it, and you have to manually change it back, as it persists even if you close the window.)

Changed link style to 1. That's the way it came in for some reason.
I don't use the BLK style either.

Photobucket sucks. LOL

Yeah, that's a cruel prank for anyone who doesn't know about the forum styles (which for anyone who isn't aware, is selectable via a pulldown at the VERY bottom of each page). It would suck to have it changed, and not know how to change it back.

Thanks. I've seen the custom build one online. Now to custom scale a regular cabinet into a cabaret. How would I do this? I have the measurements for the regular size cabinet but want to scale it down to make a cabaret style cabinet.
But by how much? I have built a multi-Williams cabaret to exact specifications of the original cabaret Williams made. Would like to do the same for the Qbert.
Any suggestions on how to reduce the size of the cabinet and by how much?
My Multi-Williams cabaret is 63" tall x 19" wide and 24" deep. Would like to build the Qbert around the same size.
Hmm, I may just have to get a roll of craft paper and play around with a ruler and calculator and do it by hand. Can they resize a CAD file by a certain percent? I found a CAD file that has a cabinet.

Suggestions?

That same cab (or one just like it) has been for sale in LA for more than a year. I think he has made a bunch of different machines with that same basic cabinet shape. I talked to him when the ad first went up and he confirmed it was a custom build.

There was no production Q*Bert cabaret or any other Gottlieb cabaret but there was at least one prototype/test game. I played it in the Chicago area in the 80's.

I believe there was one obscured photograph of the side of it that someone took at the AMOA trade show. I'll have to dig for it.

I built an 80% sized Rockola cab using paper and a calculator, based off tracings and measurements from a real. It might be considered a bit small for the average retro person's taste but I added a removable base that brings the CP up to normal full size cabinet height.

I built an 85% Tapper where someone reduced the sideart and I built off that. The size felt very cabaret and I really lked it for being a scaled down upright.

Typical cabaret width ends up being 18 to 19.5 inches which gives a very comfortable control panel and monitor area depending on what monitor you are using.
Real arcade CRTs run into the neck issue that Midway vertical cabs solve by adding the plastic shell in the back door.

I built a scaled Galaga that was done on a 4ft tall by 2ft wide side profile. Made the width 18inches to hold a horizontal LCD and Pi. It was great for inside a house and comfortable for adult sitting on a typical sized folding chair.

Currently building a 4ft tall Track and Field for someone. It is also working out to the CP being 18inches wide which comfortably holds both sets of player buttons for side by side action. It'll get a 12 inch base to make the control panel height match a real upright.

Mini sizing arcade cabs is very useful if one isn't fixated on arcade authentic specs and has space concerns in a house. ie most married dudes.....
