I got a text from someone responding to my wanted at on CL. He has a 1979 Williams Time Warp. Looks like a fun game. Backglass has some scratches and flaking, but a coat of triple thick should stop any more damage. Cabinet is a 9. Playfield is maybe a 8, needs a GOOD cleaning. He said he bought it from a guy that said it worked but hasn't been used in 6 years. As of now, he was only able to get it up and running in test mode. (Unlimited balls, no score).

He was asking $750, I said it's no where near worth that and counter offered $350. He said...Sure.

So, tell me if I'm making a bad choice by considering it for $350. I have to have an answer for him by tomorrow.

so, it doesnt boot up and play ?
playfield wear ?
cabinet condition ?
broken plastics ?
how do the legs look ?
water damage ?
battery acid on the CPU ?

dont think i'd pay that much but i havent seen it

its a fun game but

look on ebay for what they are going for
or look at the pinpedia site for approximate value

I already checked pinpedia...average is $300-700 on the high end.

Doesn't boot into a game, but works in test mode.
Cabinet looks spiffy.
Playfield needs a good cleaning, but is complete and all plastics look present and in tact.
Legs are nice.
No water damage.
No CPU damage.

I would buy it. Assuming the playfield is in decent condition. If you're lucky it only needs batteries, though Williams games from that era require a bunch of preventative maintenance work to be really reliable. Sounds like an easy project, in any case.

I hope it's an easy project. As you've probably noticed I'm really into the restoration, not the circuitry haha. He said he's replaced the AA's in it. And I noticed that the boards are stamped 1980 and 1981, which I found weird since it's a 1979 game.

Does it still have the bananna flippers?

For $350 it's seems like a good deal, but obviously it depends on what needs to be done.

I'd only get it if I really wanted the game. Might be hard to unload.

Yes it has the banana flippers haha. I'm really weary about getting it, especially since that money was saved up for the Space Odyssey that I really wanted. But this game looks cool, the only thing that I'm worried about is the backglass...Ugh, I'm so torn, I hate decisions.

Why would you say it'd be difficult to get rid of?

If you don't want to do board work then it might not be a good choice. You can be sure there will be some level of board work required for the game to play reliably.

The boards could have been replaced with boards from a newer game at some point. If you can post a picture we can tell you which MPU version it has installed.

I think the game is worth 350.00,its a fun game, especially if you like early williams ss,very similar to gorgar, time warp, flash, has the sounds and feel of those games.if the board is booting,i would say install a new bat holder and 5101 chip to start(cheap and easy)as far as the flippers,I have used both the banana and standard yellow williams flippers and like the standard ones best, bananas are fun,but a little sloppy IMO.Here are some pics of TW with the banana flippers.

It might be hard to unload if you sink money into the restoration and expect to get that money back when you try to sell it.

I think that's a fair price, though I wouldn't sink a lot of money into it. This was my first pin and I played it at a local bar tonight and still think it's a solid game. Even sort of missed it for a moment.

I also vote for getting rid of the banana flippers if it comes with them - I like the game so much more without them.
