was galaga 88 a kit game, or did it have a dedicated cab? or both?

I picked one up (missing the board and with a 20ez in there, and a 3 in 1 early multi board)

Mine looks like the picture on klov but I wonder if that's a dedicated cab or what.

In the US, Atari released it in a dedicated system cabinet. I am not aware of there being any "kits" of that game sold, although it is possible/likely that it was sold that way in other countries, especially Asian countries...

ok then, thanks.

I have a dedicated cab. looks a little like a system 1 or 2 cab. just like the pic on klov.
curious that it has a 20ez in there huh. I will shoot some pics of everything just for kicks later.

The 20 ez is correct too.. My pacmania has one in it too..same cab I think..

yeah the screen has such heavy b urn I figured it's been in there for quite a number of years.

thanks for the input guys.
guess I should find a galaga 88 board and put her back to normal.
what do they run?

I think Atari was using 20EZ's during that time frame. I believe Cyberball used them as well.

Yup. My Robot Monsters has one. And my Assault has the Sharp equivalent monitor (very similar design/layout, but don't think it is inverted video by default). Something about them buying out remaining stock from Sanyo or Nintendo I believe.

galaga 88 bds are pricey,,I paid 275 for one shipped. But its an awesome game. Killer sound too.. they may have come down some ..

G'88 came in kit form to convert Dragonspirit and Pacmania cabinets. i believe at least for DS it's simply a ROM swap on the board.

i have yet to see a "dedicated" manual, though it seems like there were dedicated cabinets produced which were identical to DS and Pacmania.

for my money, G'88 is the best of all the Galaxian/Galaga series even with the more cutesy graphics and sounds.

WOW The side art in that first one is 10X better than the stock Atari crap! I am making a custom midway style cabinet for my Japanese Galaga '88 board. I am using the Japanese flyer as a basis for the side art. As far as I can tell by the time Galaga '88 came out in Japan arcades has switched to candy style cabinets.

+1 very sweet with that side art wow.....I love those cabs, just wish my front looked like that. Mine was kicked in so had a cab guy fix it and he put the coin door in the middle and no door. Lift the CP up and its all there...I just dig the original look. Great cab, great f-in game..

If it is like a System I cab, doesn't that make it hard to access the PCB and power supply?

Wish there were a cut file and more repro stuff for this cabinet available. :(

LOL I'm giving my brother my old JAMMA cab. He messaged me a few minutes ago all like, "it has Galaga 88 in it, this is sweet!" So I had to advise him to slow his f'n roll cause that board ain't going in his humid, 100-degree + garagecade. :D

The guy that did it, made sure all is right under the CP, lift it up and its all right there. Its easy to get to and all that but hey I miss being able to get into the cab..LOL When I think of GALAGA 88 I think half coin doors/half door to all. But it works and looks great and its a f-ing 88..Yea dawg.....No shit huh that board wont be in the g-cade they are worth a bit of care and some climate control..

BTW the cab #s are model# 50100 and ser# UR00167, so not completely sure what cab it was original.

Hell no it won't. That one stays in my collection unless I find a dedi someday. Told him he can take the cab but leave that behind, and bought him an ArcadeSD board last night to fuck around with as an early XMas gift so isn't tempted to borrow it while I'm stuck overseas.
