Don't store the backs of screened glass or plexiglass on particleboard.
My pretty nice Ms. Pac bezel started flaking like mad. Just yesterday, I had a MINT Ms. Pac marquee from an old op with the exception of initial carvings on the front, the colors were fresh and super dark. I set it onto my dad's particleboard worktable to be polished, a lttle bump, and sure enough it's now wall art worthy. :(

Didnt you post about not doing this a few days ago as well? Then you go and do it again? C'mon brendon!!

I felt this shouldn't do any harm to the marquee for 5 minutes since the bezel was stored for months there.

The backs of all the marquees/bezels are pretty fragile after 30+ years. I've got some that a strong gust of wind could tear off the painted art.

The pinball guys often spray the back of their backglasses with 'triple thick' or some clear protectant covering. I'm sure the same would help out on bezels as well (ideally, before they are scratched and flaking off).

Yup. Since I don't have Triple Thick, I used acrylic paint around the edges of the back of a TRON marquee. Worked wonders. It won't be lit so I don't know how that would look.

thanks

i hate when i do something stupid and i ruin something arcade. 30 years old and in an instant destroyed. i recently kicked the back of a spare chassis i had for a baby pac and it just broke the back of the monitor off. dont ask me why i had the darn thing on the floor please!
i know this feeling!

I had a monitor in a hallway and caught the neckboard with my pants. Hisssssssssss... It was a brand new monitor too, but a cheapo late model replacement, but still... I tiptoe around the stuff now.

Let me teach you another one kid.

When you start tinkering with pins, DO NOT stand the playfield glass upright leaned against a wall, while the glass edge is on a cold concrete floor. I had a pf glass shatter about 10 secs after i set it down, popped while still standing vertically. Damndest thing i ever saw.

OOoooohhhhh... Almost made that mistake with the same bezel. I had it standing upright. Fortunately it was fine. Thanks for the reminder...
At least once I get a Baby Pac-Man I can just lift the playfield. ;)
