As I am wrapping up my Quantum repro, I started thinking "what other game would I like to have next?" Lots of folks would like to have a Warlords cocktail (including me) and the PCBs seem to be more readily available and much more reasonably priced than Quantum.

The glass and CPO's have already been done and exist.

Can this be converted from a donor cocktail cab with some mods and cp's fabricated? Or would it have to be CNC'd in wood then the metal legs fabricated?

I think this would be a worthwhile project and would have great participation.

I'd be in and we already know where CPO's, glass tops, CP's, cabs, and harnesses could be repro'd.... :)

Of course nothing will beat owning an original and there will be a market and market price for them. I have my share of original pins and would not ever consider trading them for a repro.

Everyone whined about the 60 in 1s and just about everyone here owns or owned a cab with one in it.

I feel that it's not fair to have these rare games in the hands of a very elite few when the capability is there for many others to build and enjoy them. Very limited quantity repros have been done in the past. This is nothing new. I think this has stimulated rather than decimated our hobby. The Quantum repro has been great fun and has had wide participation and buzz.

There are classic automobile repro kits but the true classic car market remains and will remain forever. This will be true for original classic arcade games as well.

I love you Bill but anybody that thinks an arcade machine is going to harbor the desireability that any car does is seriously misguided. Who in the hell wants to stand in a dark basement playing an arcade machine when they can be outside in the sun where it's beautiful tooling around in something functional. My kids are 19 and 22 and i can guarantee you there's no interest however, the convertible that i'm about to buy from selling my games is most desireable and neither my kids or their friends could give a shit.

:p I know a few folks who would rather be in the basement.....

..... and I am seriously misguided - but loveable.

Its not a bad idea, but I think you would be better off getting the board replaced with one of the sim chip pcbs. Also, IIRC, the dimensions of the warlords CT would lend itself to using a widescreen LCD monitor. It might be worth looking at doing a widescreen version of it since 4:3 ratio LCDs might be hard to get later on as a replacement. Of course, the narrower aspect ratio might seriously mess up the play compared to a 4:3 one. But, LCD would definitely be the way to go with a repro. Then there's no way anyone could claim your trying to devalue the originals.

Geez, I hope you don't vote.

Let me bump this to ask a question...

I finally got a line on a Warlords harness. I am going to assume the harness for the standup version and cocktail version are the same. Now that I think about that, I don't know if it's true.

Someone had converted the Warlords cocktail I have into an Arkanoid. The monitor that is in it is burned to shit with Arkanoid.

All of my other games have nice CRTs, but it occurs to me that there is no reason to not look at LCDs for this conversion I am doing. Warlords took a 13" or 14" monitor, right? Is there a comparable LCD screen that might work in this, or am I crazy?

You're crazy, lcds dont look good displaying games designed to run at resolutions like 256x224...

But look for a commodore 1084 (i think) monitor, that is sourceable, the right size, and the right technology (cga, crt, phosphors!)

Original Warlords cocktail monitor is 14"
You can use the Commodore 1084s monitor, it's the same one. You will have to make a bracket to hold the monitor boards, but it's no big deal.

Warlords is 1000% more fun than Major Havoc or Quantum, so imho these should have been repro'ed first.

ANYONE can walk upto a Warlords cocktail and sitdown with 3 strangers and have a blast during the FIRST game and the LAST game. Not so with the others.

Who cares if it "devalues" the original. If you're in this hobby to retire on, you are mistaken.

Besides, there should be more than 300 of these games availble to play, because it's such a great game.

When I owned my restored Warlords cocktail, I took it to CGE in Las Vegas, I took it to a friends 4th of July party, I took it to a college football game, and I based an entire party around it with a $50 prize to the winner. All just so people could get a chance to play it. That's how much fun it is. And I always told them to play it because they probably would never have the chance to play it again. And they did and loved it.

I've never seen an old lady have so much fun on an arcade game like I did with Warlords.

I vote "YES" with both thumbs up for reproing this.

Hopefully it will make it easier to get myself another one, as I had to sell mine.
