This was a fun restore. Got this after getting a working Warlords upright that had wood rot beyond repair. At least I had the working board and AR2 to start with, so my hunt for a cocktail began. Luckily, I found an old post from fellow Klov'r gotya and he gave me a great deal on a converted cocktail and I had it shipped from Texas! When it arrived, you can see that there was some swelling on the corners and LOT of rust. It had been clearly sitting in water at some point and the legs were really crusty. Well, it is done and working great now.Here's a shot of the before and then the restore process:

So far so awesome, keep em coming. Great resource for my restoration.

Thanks, It's done and I have a lot more photos, if you need them. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you run into anything. The hardest part was filling in all the holes, repairing the swollen edges and then re-pinning the harness and control panels. Just glad I could save another rare one!! Looking forward to seeing yours as well!

It would be great if you could post all the pics on this thread. I will keep referring to it.

I finished rebuilding the complete hacked harness, turned out great. I had to re-pin the whole harness as well and replace a whole hacked player one harness. The big part for me to fix, will be to restore the areas that were cut away at the control panels to accommodate having the monitor vertically. It was converted to a Ms. Puckman.

I have Dptwiz cutting out repro sections, and I will retrofit them on my cab with dowels and then a nice portion of bondo. He has the correct dimensions on cnc, so he will make them slightly larger and I will cut away the excess and fit them in. The inner side where the hook grooves are and the holes for the locks are all hacked away as well, and I will have to rebuild those with bondo as well.

Should be fun.

Here is what Im talking about in terms of the hacked control panels, attached.

Cool, I'll upload some more pics after I get them converted. I see what you will be dealing with on those cut-outs. Should be able to make it look great with Dptwiz's help. That's cool you got the wiring done already.

On a side note, anyone know what fighting game mine was converted to? Thrust and kick? Probably impossible to figure out.

Hey Torin, could you take pics of the coin meter and connectors, as well as where and how the coin meter is mounted. My unit was missing the coin meter, I want to make sure I source the correct meter, and mounting hardware(if any), as well as where and how to mount it.

Thanks in advance.

I have 5 NOS potentiometers, Takeman sent me one, his is made in Mexco, but my 4 NOS are the ones made in Canada. There is a difference in the pole height, the Mexican version being the shorter pole. I am assuming that the shorter pole would be better so that the spinners sit nice and low to the control panel. I will be visiting the factory in downtown Toronto later this week, and find out bulk pricing, and item details and specifics. I will also ask about both versions and if both pole heights are available.

I had two left over from a Star Wars yoke rebuild that still work great and the two from the upright Warlords that had the cab rot.

That's good to know that SW/RB/PP/PB/etc 19-9026 5kohm POT is the same as WL 19-9022 5kohm POT. I was worried they were not 100% backwards compatible. Do you have a close up pic of the mfr/part-number of the parts you are using? :)

FWIW, I believe the PEC 5kohm LINEAR 2W on Digikey is a match. YMMV - haven't tested this myself nor found confirmation online or here on KLOV.

You can cut the shafts (poles) to make them shorter if you need to.

Good to know on the digikey product. Thanks. Here are the two pots. Let me know if you need a clearer pic:

From an old RGVAC post (John Robertson) ->

Your EJA1N048F502M pot has the following characteristics:

EJA = type - Single EJ
1 = locating lug position
N = plain bushing .375 in long
048 = 48/64 in shaft length
F = shaft ending - Standard Flat
501 = 5K
M = taper type - Linear +/- 20%

EJC1N056S502U is the version that I have - has a slip clutch and tighter
taper.

EJC = type - Single EJ with Slip Clutch
1N - same as yours
056 = 7/8 ins - (slightly longer shaft)
S = shaft ending - Screwdriver Slotted (that is the extra length bit)
501 = 5K
U = taper type - Linear +/- 10% (more accurate).

...............................

It would be interesting to know if any one POT has better feel and response than another ...

Compare to PEC KU5021S28-HL-ND (at Digikey):

Resistance (Ohms) 5k
Power (Watts) 2W
Tolerance ±10%
Temperature Coefficient -
Number of Turns Single Rotation 314°
Adjustment Type Side Adjustment
Resistive Material Carbon
Termination Style Solder Lug
Actuator Length 0.875" (22.22mm)
Actuator Type Slotted Shaft
Actuator Diameter 0.249" (6.32mm)
Size - Body Round - 1.120" Dia x 0.536" L (28.45mm x 13.61mm)
Mounting Type Panel Mount

As I noted previously, these 5Kohm pots where very popular on many Atari games - Star Wars, Red Baron, Pole Position, PaperBoy, Warlords etc ...
