I've been working with the son of an operator who is liquidating his Dad's inventory. His father was an operator for many many years in the Lexington, KY area and passed away a few weeks ago. I've talked about this on the general discussion forum but since the inventory is somewhat complete, I've decided to move this here.

The original thread: http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=224498

He really wants a single offer on all items. Between the funeral, cleaning up his dad's place and all that's related with that he's just closed on a new house. He wants this to be easy.

Pictures of all items can be found below (yes, there is a SW CP and a SW UR). His email is in the first image of the albums. Contact him via email.

FYI, I've exchanged a few emails with Kevin. Right now they're trying to come up with an asking price. I think one idea is to leave everything where it is for a certain price and the buyer can take over the storage unit rental. Although apparently there is a lot more than what's currently in storage and it might require a 2nd unit.

As of right now, the number he floated out is $10,000. I don't know if this is too high, too low or just right for what's there. I haven't really paid that much attention to what's available and I'm sure it depends on whether or not its functional. I'm just very interested since these types of sales never seem to go on in this area (at least I'm never aware of them if they do).

Regardless, whatever price is settled on, I'd be interested in pitching in some $ for a few things if someone wanted to organize a group purchase.

the price is fair for whats there but right now i wish the guy good luck with the sale..

If the lot was 2k would sell instantly. 5k, yeah mabye 6-8k mabye in time if you find the right rich guy.. and if hes in no hurry, kind of sounds like he is to me..

if anybody here has some cash get 4-5 grand togther and meet the guy to take a peek. throw that at him and see if he takes it. If he really wants to stop paying rent on those storage units and doesent want anything to do with the business, this should be a no brainer.

man, the guy just lost his dad, going through a lot in his life, has a funeral to pay for and has probably been around his dad's business his whloe life. Won't be easy to just give it the stuff away. I don't believe in trying to take advantage of a person in a rough situation. I think 10 grand is fair and I vote to let him see if he can get that before somebody just shows up and throw some cash at him. IF he takes it someone will walk away laughing and saying man did I get a deal when all you really did is make it harder on somebody that is already going through a hard time

dude its ky though.. where im at the economy is bad. My best friend lives in sturgis, ky and things around there are ROUUUGH with a capitol r..

I wish the duee luck. I hope he proves me wrong. Theres alot of games in there id love to have.. (sw, almost all the drivers)

Personally, I was thinking offers would come in around $2-$3k for everything. It's not that I think everyone (some people would, I know) would try to take advantage of the guy in his tough time, but it's that there's a LOT of stuff there. And if he insists on it going in 1 big lot, that's going to be a big commitment and a lot of work for someone.

That being said, I believe he's received offers on just a few of the games (Star Wars most definitely included) in the $4,000 range. That's how he came up with the $10k. Personally, I think once the big ticket items are gone, the offers are going to drop exponentially.

Also, he has a 16' box truck with a rebuilt lift gate. He's thinking about asking $2,500 if anyone's interested.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but I just don't see 10K there. And here's the problem....anyone who's been around knows how this dance goes.....some tool shoots him an offer of 4K for the Star Wars cockpit, knowing damn well, he's never going to pay 4K for it. He throws a high offer out there to "lock" the sale. When said guy shows up for pick up, he starts nit-picking it to death.....next thing you know, he pulls out $1200 and says that's my final offer. Will the seller take it?...who knows. The problem.....the seller has NO IDEA what he has, and what's a realistic value. All the idiots offering inflated bids gives the seller the idea he's setting on a goldmine. This only leads to headaches....for the seller and (potential) legitimate buyers. Who's going to offer 4K for a (basically) site unseen Star Wars cockpit?? Hell, nice working one sell for that (give or take a few $$$). That's a total bogus offer. If the seller does sell the Star Wars separate, he's going to have a difficult time getting much $$$ out of the rest of that stuff......maybe $1000.

I've analyzed this deal pretty closely and made an offer. But if Kevin thinks anyone, no matter how rich, would pay $10k for that lot, he is mistaken.

There are a couple games worth money, and several boards. The rest is worth little to nothing as it sits. Yes, the other classics could be restored and sold for decent money. But they are FAR from restored. Cabinets in that condition can be had for $25 to $100 all over. Stripped, damaged, broken...come on.

And the star wars are even a gamble. Do they have monitors? Do they have any guts? Are the cabinets solid? Any water damage? There are only a couple small pictures. I mean they are desirable no matter what condition, but there's a big difference in value depending on the answers to those questions.

And the boards....yes, there are some good boards there. But many look like they are missing chips. and they are as-is - assume broken. The difference in value between known working boards and as-is boards is like 10x.

So anyway, I'll let you know if I get the stuff or not, but I'm guessing not if he's really thinking 10k is reasonable.

+1

Even if that stuff is not worth that and the economy is bad and gas is going up and this is the year the world will end, It would be nice for this man to get close to what he wants in order to get his life in some kind of order.

If he donated it all he probably could claim the 10,000 off on his taxes.

So, when you 'claim 10K off your taxes', what does that net you?

Whatever your marginal tax rate is times the donation?

$2500?

And that's only if you made enough money to need that kind of deduction. In this part of KY it might be hard to make that much.

I'm not going to speculate on value on this. It's certainly an opportunity for someone to make some cash but it's going to take serious effort to make it happen. I'd say this is one of those situations where I'd strongly consider eBay to set the value. Either that or just take offers from people for a couple weeks and negotiate a value that is agreeable.

What I see is the following and my low price estimate:

Star Wars ----------------------$2500.00
Speeds (2 of them) -----------$800.00ea
Daytona (standup)------------$500.00
Daytona 2 (2 of them) --------$1000.00ea
Galaga --------------------------$400.00
Slot Machine--------------------$600.00

Assuming they are all working that is $6800.00 for just this little bit. I know I am low on my pricing as I have seen this this go for much higher, depending on condition. The Daytona and Daytona 2's look pretty mint. The Speeds look pretty good too. There is a ton of other stuff that who knows what it could be worth once it is totalled. We are only seeing a few pictures. I don't think 10 grand is too far out of the relm.

Your prices are for working and nice condition. Maybe they are, maybe not. Id think youd need a personal inspection and some extension cords before that kinda cash is laid down. 10K is pretty high, considering the work involved in turning a profit (if that be your motive). I say haul it all to Kingsport and let the games begin..

My thoughts exactly. A few nice pieces a lot of junk. A shit ton of work and cash from one person. I suggested to sell it off as tested and sell it off a piece at a time to get the max out of it I don't believe the money is the driving force it's who will take everything. I offered to help test boards and anything else. good luck to who ever gets it. I would like the Pacland

I would like to win the lottery, but that will not happen.

When I was exchanging emails about this deal, he didn't list the speeds, daytona or daytona 2 as part of the package. Not sure if the pictures are outdated, or if he wants to keep those (there was also a Pengo in a picture he said he was keeping), or if he already sold them to someone else. But they are not in the $10k package. That's one reason I said 10k was never going to happen.

And 2500 for the star wars....is that really the going rate for an as-is, possibly stripped star wars? Man...I might need to sell some of mine. I thought 2500 was about the rate for one that's completely working, rebuilt, and restored?

What' I'd like to know is how big of a truck would be needed to haul all of this.
