Hello there everyone, i have an original war gods game and have been trying to repair a damaged drive, you can see my post here where i am trying to get it to work with a new drive.
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=110064
However the chd image i downloaded from the net, is giving me a stretched image, not distorted but it looks like i am only viewing 75% of the screen, the rest of it is off the screen and i cannot adjust it to show everyting, this is mainly becuase im using a standard resolution monitor instead of a medium res, however before everyone starts going off and saying it isnt going to work becuase of my monitor, you should know that my hard drive that died DID show everything perfectly in my standard res monitor. So if anyone out there has a war gods with a newer image, what i mean by newer is anything with an older rev than ver 2800. So if anyone out there can please find it in their heart to help out a fellow klover, i would really appreciate it.

here are the specs for the images

On the defective disk - but graphics work perfectly
Game type :452
Diag System: .2K
game code version:78860000
Compiled :sat oct 12 12: 56:34 1996
disk asic U11 ver:B5
game code originator:8080000
file system ver:26
Boot.Bin file launcher ver:0106

On the good disc - but graphics are screwed up - this one is the default mame.chd
Game type :452
Diag System: .2H
game code version:2800
Compiled :mon aug 19 08:25:19 1996
disk asic U11 ver:B5
game code originator:0001
file system ver:26
Boot.Bin file launcher ver:0106

So if anyone has the .2k diag or newer please can you please pm me.

Many Thanks
Rick

I know what it says, and they are correct for the 1st rev of the game, but if you read around the net you will find out that it does work with a low res monitor as long as you have a later revision of the board, i had it running for 3 weeks with a 19" standard rez monitor, before the drive finally crapped out, and the mame version of the hd image works but the resolution is all screwed up, hence that is why im looking for a later rev, of the image. If you look above you will see the rev that im looking for.

Rick.

well then... I thought about it afterwards that there was probably a kit version.

is your original drive so bad that you can't copy from it? I'd encourage that you try that with CHDman.

Rick,

You'll probably shoot me for saying this, but anyone that gets one of the games with a hard drive in it that works should pull it immediately and back it up with CHDMAN!

Nothing is going to beat the image that comes with your working hard drive and I've seen a ton of posts here from folks looking for the correct CHD file for Gaunt Leg, Dark Legacy, Area 51, etc, etc. and often times they are not available or just hard to come by.

I know -- it's too late now and I'm speaking from 20-20 hindsight. Hopefully this will encourage someone else to pull their HD and back them up now!

Your link doesnt work, but Im curious about the type of drive you used as a replacement.. Did you get any old harddrive or was it the same type and brand as the original?(What ever that was Seagate im guessing?)

It's not the board that's causing you problems, it's the hard drive image. There are 2 versions that I know of: 'B5' is medium resolution only. 'L1.0' is switchable. On DIP switch bank 1 set SW1 = ON and SW2 = OFF to get low res. I'm the lazy one who needs to rip the 'L1.0' image and get it sent off to the MAME guys. It's been sitting on a shelf for a long time so wish me luck.

if it sits, it should be ok.

if it's running for hours on end for no reason, then... ;)

thanks for the input. I noticed that Williams/Midway did something similar with Smash TV when they later offered a different kit version of the game (which I believe was the L8.0 romset) that allowed for the SNK style rotary joysticks to be used with the game.

I didn't think War Gods was a popular enough game to have a kit version that had switchable resolution capability. for the seemingly little time it takes to rip a CHD, you should do it. :) still amazed at how fast the MK Turbo Ninja roms got dumped for MAME a few months back... glad to see people using MAME for what it was intended for still!
