I purchased a couple WAR Final Assault machines and have a couple of questions.

One machine has some texture glitches, most of the menu / high score / credits screens have static backgrounds that look a bit garbled. I also see this in the game on some textures on walls, there's a weird effect (occasionally) where you're walking around and a certain polygon with a texture on the floor seems to be moving/stretching very oddly depending on your movement. Kind of hard to explain, but I think it's linked to the problem I see on the static background images?

I've attached a couple images showing how one such menu looks on the machine with the glitch, and how it looks on the "good" machine.

I ran disk diagnostics, thinking some file corruption error would pop up or something, and the tests run the same on both machines, no dice there.

Is this a new video card kind of problem (I see threads mentioning Obsidian cards..), or are those textures in a on-PCB eeprom or something that needs to be replaced?

The second issue I have I think may be a standard monitor issue, but not exactly sure. There's a convergence test that shows a grid of white lines on the screen, on the "good machine" (without texture problems) this grid of lines looks great, on the "not so good" machine changing the focus helps a little but you can clearly see blue and red lines above/below the white lines in some areas (seems up to 2-4 pixels off vertically at worst). Does this mean I need to do a cap kit, or some other type of repair?

I bought an NBA JAM machine a year or two back and was pleasantly surprised at how "cartridge-like" the PCBs seem, just plug the jamma in and you're good to go. These WAR machines are a different class of beast in terms of the hardware in the back. Looks like a full PC back there, a bit intimidating :)

The answer is in the name of the test. :)

Your monitor is mis-converged. I don't think a cap kit is going to help. You might take some good pictures of the test and post it here. It's possible to adjust this out but it takes practice. Some special magnets put on the tube can help as well but don't mess with this unless you have the right materials.

Re: the video card question, you should try moving the video card from your working system to the other one and see if that makes the issue go away.

The hard drive failed on that machine recently and that gave me high hopes the texture glitches were in fact corrupted files, but no - turns out you were right, failing or glitching video card.

I swapped the HDD over from the other machine, turned it on - worked, but glitches persisted, swapped the video card while I was in there after that, and the glitches were gone.
