[Wanted] Taito Power Supply (working)

[Wanted] Taito Power Supply (working)

the title almost says it all, except that it should work in a jungle king / hunt!

if you have one for sale, please drop me message ...

In that case, you need this:

taito-ps.jpg

Get it here:

http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm#Power

Hopefully Arcade Shop will ship to Germany. And unfortunately they do not accept orders any way other than by phone. :(

It is the "Jungle King power supply conversion kit," which is identical to the ones listed for all of the other 1982-era Taito games. It's just a Happ switching power supply with an adapter that makes it plug and play so you don't have to hack up your wiring harness.

The original Taito linear power supplies were a poor design, and are not worth rebuilding or even trying to use today, in my opinion. I own five Taitos from 1982-83 and not one of them had an original working power supply when I got them. They all have switchers, which work great in these Taitos.

Ully, If this is for your JK resto. don't you need the ISO transformer??

You would hook the above that SanTe mentions to It?? (or similar)

well, right now i don't have any power supply at all in my cab, BUT the original wiring harness. i could hack up the harness and attach it to a switcher, but i don't want to do that. i'd rather put an original power supply at the bottom of my cab and splice in the arcadeshop switcher. does this make sense?

I'm not sure that's how it's done?....as per the pic's I sent you a few months ago, unless mine was done differently to how others do It.

As far as I have seen, you take the PS out all together, and the switcher is powered from the original ISO setup???

what i would need is basically the entire thing that's in the bottom of the cab (if the wooden board underneath it were included it would be even better. here's a (stitched) picture of what i'm talking about:

i'm also looking for that "black thing" mounted on the left side (viewed from behind) of the cabinet. i don't know what it's called or what the function of it is, but it would be cool to have it to make the cab complete ... ;)

You don't need the PS board (closest to the back door in your pic) if your going to put a switcher in there, and you dont need the heat sink, black thingy either.

You MAY be able to get away with a suitable generic ISO transformer???? and switcher, or computer PS .....I have 2 TAITO (ZK & QIX) cabs that work 100% with this setup.

so you're saying this is what i need (at the bottom of the cab):

this is what's left of the wiring / interior in my zoo keeper cabinet, but since i will be getting all the parts needed (including a power supply with an isolation transformer and a complete wiring harness), i might as well remove this from the zoo keeper cabinet, put it into my jungle king cab and get the switcher from arcadeshop, right? that should do the trick then ...

I will take a picture later today for you to show you what I did to my Elevator Action. I got rid of all the original Taito stuff and started from scratch. It took about 30lbs off of the weight of the cabinet.

Ully, yeah....as per your last 2 pics, that's all I have in the bottom of both my cabs + a switcher(in the qix and a computer PS in the ZK)

BUT, It sounds like Joseph has a solution that gets rid of the bits as per your pic, I would be very interested to see what Joe has done too, as you are in the same boat as me Ully, postage on one of those transformers would be a lot.

If you still need pics from my setup, I can post them tonight after work(it's 6 am here now)

Wait and see what Joe has done first, might save both of us some trouble and money!

hey joe, are you drawing that picture by hand? ;) would be cool if you could enlighten us with your setup. thx a lot for your efforts already!

Ully, leave what's left in there.. on the left hand side where the 2 fuses are there are 3 plugs.. plug the monitor back in to the isolation transformer. and use the second plug marked 120, for the AC lines to the switcher, do not tap into the green wires, they are 6.3 volt for all the cp and marquee lights , so reconnect that plug when you put the harness back in..

join the connectors as we discussed, you will end up with an extra purple and an extra white/brown striped wire that are not used in this game.. (guess this harness runs other Taito games)

then connect the remaining V1 connector wires to your Universal switcher.

red +5
yellow +12
white ground
black ground

I can take all the pictures you may need of my setup.. it works and it works well. I have been told by many the original PS was garbage from day one... So you are not hacking the game, you are UPGRADING it..

extra purple and extra white / brown striped wire? where do they come from?

i'll be off to check out my wiring right now, i'll report back with results later! might ask you to take some pics as well! :)

the purple runs to the left side plug near the coin door, and the white with brown stripe runs to the CP plug..

you don't lose them, they were never used in this game. if you trace them they are both in only one side of the plugs near the control panel.
