My Pac-Man mini has a bad power cord. It threw up a big spark last night along with that great ozone-y smell.

I haven't gone in to look at the boards inside yet for damage. Everything was working okay before the cord went kaput.

If there's a KLOVer in the area and you know how to fix cords, shoot me a message. Thanks!

Update: just went through the machine. Nothing looked "crispy", so at least it physically looks okay. Still anyone's guess at this point, though...

I'll do it, just fly me out

You can do it yourself, the power cord is a easy repair and we here can walk you thru it.

I'm contemplating it.

I might try replacing the plug at the end of the line; I'm actually thinking that's where the problem is. Maybe go to the hardware store and get one of those replacement kits.

But, AFA the rest of the line goes: I'm terrible at soldering, and I don't have many tools at the moment. Wouldn't I have to remove it from the power block?

Is the plug where you saw the flash??

The plug is easy to replace. Just need to take your time. It should have 3 wires in it. The 2 side by side pins are for ac and return, the center top(or bottom) pin is ground and can not be put on the other 2 pins.

You would need to look inside the game, some power cords are soldered in and others go to a terminal board.
If it is soldered in and there is enough wire you could splice the new cord in

Yup - looks good.

I think I'll have to cut the plug off, as it doesn't screw apart - has tabs that aren't budging.

Do you know what amp rating the plug should be?

heavy duty wall outlets are 15 amps
you should be able to get a15 amp plug for around 3 or 4 bucks

sounds like you have a molded plug and you are correct, just cut it off

What city, I might be able to help

Okay - after cutting the plug off, I've got my ground wire in a green sheath in the middle. And two copper wires in the black sheath on either side.

Which of the copper wires goes to the gold terminal, and which to the silver?

Thanks for the input! Plug installed. Pac-Man chomping ghosts.

Given the shock the old plug put out, I feel pretty damn lucky nothing was damaged, including me.
