Wanted: Neo Geo cartridges - Puzzle Bobble, etc (also need dead carts...)

Just picked up my first Neo Geo machine, it came with a handful of games - mostly fighters - but I'm looking for some other non-fighting games. I definitely want to find Puzzle Bobble, and would be interested in any other similar puzzle or platformer games.

I'd also like to find a dead/junk cartridge or two. One of the games I got has a badly damaged cartridge housing... made even worse by my accidentally dropping it - stupid brittle plastic.

http://forums.klov.com/showthread.php?t=114225 if you're interested. Make an offer.

Two of my favorites are Metal Slug (any revision) and Shock Troopers, 2nd Squad. They aren't the typical KOF type fighter, but rather a scrolling shooter.

The companies that programmed them had a sense of humor too. When you come back to life after dying, the bad guys will jump and scream. Hell, on some versions of the MS series, they'll point and laugh at you when you die. :D

Yeah, I rather like Metal Slug - fortunately that game came with the cabinet I bought. I'm really looking forward to playing more Neo Geo games, it's one of those platforms I never messed much with, and I rarely saw them in the arcades either.

I joined over at the Neo Geo forums, but something is weird with my account. I can reply to posts, but I can't create new topics, send PM's, read my profile or the profile of others, etc. It's real weird. I can't PM any of the moderators because I can't PM, and there isn't a section for forum-related questions. I tried responding to one of the posts in the new user introduciton subforum, but the post didn't appear, I got a message about how it would be reviewed for moderator approval. I guess there's some kind of filter there that picks up on words like "post" or something.

I guess Neo Geo must be some tight-knit subculture that doesn't want outsiders joining or something. :D

2nd this, can't go wrong with Metal Slug. They get boring quick though if you just pump in infinite credits.

spend the money and get a multi neo cart i like them the emulation is better than the 60-1's. there are a shitload of crappy fighters many variations of the same games but still for the price they are a bitchin cart to have

horrible idea. just buy the few carts you like. besides, the multicarts dont even work reliably in all neo-geos.

yeah i must be a complete moron. your a total dick

While I'm not going to endlessly debate the pros and cons of Neo multicarts, and I agree they are an option for some, he's not BSing you about them not working reliably, nor is he being a dick.

They have a significant failure rate that anyone dropping a chunk of change on one should be aware of. Take a cursory glance at the tech support forums on neo-geo.com, and you'll find a constant stream of new members who sign up specifically to ask why their new/used multicart never worked or no longer works. Convenience aside, they are still bootleg carts, and are of the quality of your usual bootleg, which isn't very high.

If you have a cab you play once a month or so, and aren't uptight about the quality of the flawed rom dumps and occasional sound issues, they are a cheap way to play some great, but otherwise expensive games. If you actually give a damn about playing the games as they were designed to be played, or want use your MVS a lot, it is probably a better idea just to snag the games you want in their original form.

Some of the best games for the system also happen to be incredibly cheap, so I've never really understood the drama over this.

Evewalker put the XXX-in-1 cart argument as well as anyone could; They're simply not worth messing with. If you want to try games to see if you want to buy them, an emulator like NeoRageX is a good way to go. If you want to play them in your cabinet, just buy real carts. I've had experience with lots of boots, and they are almost all of very poor quality and have glitches. Because of how the games are compressed onto the XXX-in-1 carts, they tend to be even worse; because they're easier to sell than many other bootlegs, there are a lot of people making them, many of whom are some of the less-experienced bootleggers. Just stay away from those things.

Silverduck, Puzzle Bobble and Bust A Move are the same game; only difference is the label. One's the U.S. release, the other's the other-side-of-the-pond release. Either cart will play in English just fine on a US motherboard.

Retrohacker, I'm sending you a PM with a few games I have for sale.

i'm a total dick because i don't agree with you? just fuck right off.

from my experience, multicarts don't work in most multi-slot MVS machines, and even some single-slots. for $100+ you can get 5 good neo geo games. if you want the entire suite of games, go emulate them for free. so what's the point of paying for a multicart?

it was your attitude that prompted that response not what you said but how you said it!

what attitude is that? being correct? get off your high-horse mr. psychotherapist-almighty-video-game-guy. you don't need to interpret how i say anything, and you don't need to cry like a 6-year-old when someone corrects you. i'm done with this thread.
