I'm looking for a Mario Bros. cocktail table. I know it's a long-shot, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Not to burst your bubble, but you probably won't find one. From my understanding, they were only produced in Japan and in very few numbers. This wasn't a case where they had too many produced and imported them to the US to be re-released or converted to something else. There could be a slight chance one was privately imported BITD and is now hidden somewhere in the US. :)

Let me know if you discover where it's hidden, and how much.

If I found a dedicated MB cocktail, there could be three scenarios:

1. The owner has no idea of its rarity and value and would let it go for next to nothing in which case I would be the new owner in a nano second.
2. The owner knows of its rarity and value and would only sell for a very large amount in which case a collector with a lot of money to burn would pay for it.
3. The owner wouldn't sell it.

:D

On a serious note, it would be kind of cool if someone could make a custom MB cocktail using a DK cocktail. You would need to make the monitor horizontal and then produce a custom CP along with some custom artwork. It would be a lot of work, but not impossible.

But to be honest, I think the reason why they didn't make a lot of these and they weren't produced in the US is that it was probably a PITA to play. Look how small that CP is. Can you imagine sitting down with another guy and playing that? There's a reason why they made the wide-body version of the upright.

Actually, it looks to be exactly the same cabinet as DKJR and Popeye cocktails, minus one coin mech. There's even a couple holes drilled for the second mech already. Donkey Kong (Sr.) cocktails are smaller and don't use the tinted glass. Looks to me, comparing the pic to both machines right here, that the control panel would mount right up (same CP "pod" used for all Nintendo cocktails, excepting Mario evidently). And yes, it would be quite uncomfortable to play. "2nd Gen" Nintendo cocktails like DKJR+ already accept the larger boardsets and have easily rotated monitors, so produce a repro sheetmetal CP and you're all set.

Yes. It does look like only the control panel is what makes it different. And then of course the Mario Bros. marquee/instruction cards. I think a custom Mario Bros. control panel for a Nintendo cocktail is doable. It could even be made wider than the original as long as it's solid and looks good.
