I just picked up an Asteroids in a Lunar Lnder cab. I want to convert it back to a lunar lander so if anyone has, or has a lead, to the following please message me.

Control panel - I would put in Takeman's multipanel (AST/DLX and LL) [silkscreened version coming soon]; and Takeman repro thruster [also maybe coming soon?]
PCB - I would put in a cheaper AST PCB with the "now affordable" BRAZE multiboard

Thanks..but id rather put it back to original form. I am not a fan of multiboards. That will be a last resort.

Alternatively he just wants what he wants. It's not what you'd want but it's not your wanted ad.

I believe I gave what I gave since that gives the cheapest/easiest option to give so the cabinet gets what will be worth playing given what is easier to get. Get it? Got it? Good.

An original PCB is going to run you $500+. Original thrusters almost never come up. (I've never seen one anyway.)

Not trying to deter you, just giving you the info. I'm all for going original, but you might consider an Asteroids PCB with multi, and the analog thruster interface, just as a temp solution, till you can find an original PCB. (You can always sell the Ast board + kit later.) At least you can play the game until then.

My bad. I missed the part where the OP asked for the easiest/cheapest option :)

Advice around here is FREE. (Whether it makes sense or not). Can't get cheaper than that. :D

Good thing the OP was not asking about Quantum parts.
Those are $4000, no more, no less. LOL

If you don't win the LL PCB currently up for auction on ebay, the Braze kit on an Asteroids board is not like other multigames that compromise accuracy or gameplay. It uses the vector monitor just like the original, and the LL hardware is very similar to the Asteroids hardware, to begin with. You don't have the mission select panel (it is emulated on screen) so I agree it's not the same as the original, but it's very good.

thanks..I caught that auction this morning and sent the seller a few questions on it. I plan on bidding on it...36 people watching it thus far.

Dick Millikan. Old school. The winner will be getting a solid board.

Not that I think OP is going this route, however, if you get desperate, do not run the multiboard on an Asteroids Deluxe PCB. I have one in my AD, and it is not very good in my opinion. Sounds are just too far off for me.

I have not tried the multi in an Asteroids cabinet, so I cannot speak to how well that sounds.

I do have all the original games, so I can make an accurate comparison.

Good luck in your quest!

Using an Asteroids PCB for the multi allows you to use the existing harness in the asteroids cab, and as a bonus has better sound conversion than the AD PCB. The AD PCB isn't plug and play compatible with the ASteroids cab because AD flips the image to allow for the mirrored effects of AD.

Going the LL PCB route requires some hacking and a harness for the mission select hardware and the thruster --- I opted on a repro harness because hacking the harness was above my comfort level...

Slightly off topic, but if you have an AD cab and want the multi, the best bet is to get an Asteroids board and mod it for an AD cab, then get the Asteroids version of the kit. Then, all of the sounds will be correct for both games.

See my mod thread here, with instructions:

The sound anomalies in DLX is why POST #2 recommended original AST board. OP already has this PCB (though needs fixing). Seemed like a plan to me but not all agree. LOL :p
