i only have partial sound effects on my joust 2 (no digitized speech), therefore i'm looking for a J2 sound pcb to replace the one inside my cab. here's what it looks like:

so if you have a spare one lying around OR can help me get digitized speech back, please drop me a PM or post here. thx so much!!!

joust 2

First thing i would do if i had partial sounds would check the ESR on the axial caps. Not the Big radial caps unless maybe they got bump and broke a leg.
Replace the 6809 processor to test.
Also U18 is a ramp generator if my memory serves me and those are on pinball logics and have "failed me for the last time". I had some sounds missing and bad with those going out.
Each fix i gave you i have done with those kind of problems.

No speech means the CVSD chip at U18, HCI-55536 (sometimes HCI-55564 or HCI-55516, Williams/Midway used whatever Harris CVSD chip was least expensive at any given time as they're all nearly equivalent) may be dead or not receiving data, or one of the analog filter op-amps after said chip in the audio path is no good. These CVSD chips have become a bit of a pain to find, check eBay, but first make sure there's clock and data going into the CVSD chip with an oscilloscope, as it could be a partially faulty PIA causing the problems as well. Also check the CVSD output to see if there's wave data there during a speech sample test of some sort, because if there is, one of the filter op amps may be bad.

I can repair your board. I repair/restore a lot of the system 11 sound boards including the Joust II (Mostly Smash TV). I replace all electrolytic capacitors as well. The missing speech is probably either the CVSD, or the 1458 OpAmp. I have a stock of new HC3-55564 (They aren't cheap or easy to source).
