Hi everybody,

I've got a set of Victory boards I'm trying to salvage that have been stripped of everything socketed, while I think they're repairable it won't be cheap so I thought I'd see if there are any complete (working or not) sets available and how much they would be? I'm trying to decide which is the cheaper direction to go.

I'm also looking for the spinner and marquee if someone has one up for sale/trade, also as always I'm looking for a Venture and/or Pepper II boardset.

Throw it away and save yourself the hassle... It took a lot of time and effort (and a spare dead boardset) to get Walt's Victory going, and it was only worth it since he had the full cab already.

Which is why the damn thing is so rare and why I'm absolutely bent on having one of the few working examples! :D It's a cool game IMHO, it's just that the PCB is poorly designed.

I'm sure you're right as far as it being a big task but I'm willing to take a crack at it, put it in my to-do list and when I have extra time slowly plug away at its no doubt numerous problems. Do you remember what was wrong with the one you had to fix? I hear one of the re-occuring problems is they're prone to issues with the background generating circuit.

Forgot about victory... Thats a game that was given to me for free (operator found for free roadside pickup). I gave it to Al(so he could dump the roms) and I think he gave it to pete..

Since your never going to find a board, I would say fix it.. I am sure Al dumped the roms and victory has to be similar to something else.

Already got the ROMs, thanks!

You have the Victor Banana roms too! I think you'd be better off getting some new parts for it. That way you'd have a better chance of it being more reliable.

True! ;)

Good point, I know they're notoriously unreliable so giving it a fresh start with new components might make things easier in the long run, and that might even be cheaper as I imagine working boardsets go for decent money when they can be found at all.

Do you happen the know what those white grounding strips that run across the boards are called, and do you have any idea where I can get replacements? I get the impression I could probably just replace them with simple wire, but I'd like to keep things original if I can. I'm going to hold out for getting a decent desoldering station before I actually start working on them, but I might as well start hunting for parts now.

Victory Boards

I am not sure if they have a specific name. They are part of the power buss. I have seen them replaced with trace repair wire on Tron boards that use a similar part. To keep the original look you could just use the wire to reconnect any that look broken loose. You'll have to peel back the insulation a bit to make a connection point.

Desoldering stations are really nice to have becuse you can usually remove a lot of parts quickly. The only down side is that they do stop up, particuularly on corroded boards where there is a lot of oxidized solder. Keep spare tips and a tip cleaner handy

I've got a spare Atari System 1 board which happens to have the power bus strips, assuming they fit I think I'm going to steal them to fix the Victory boards and replace them with simple wire, those boards are a dime a dozen so I don't mind risking it.

Missed that part of your original message, unfortunately I think the PCB is pretty unique amongst Exidy boards, I've done some comparisons of the schematics and none of the others seem to even be close. Pity as most of their earlier games used common boards that were interchangable, but I bet they gave up on Victory's design when they saw how flakey it was.
