I have a Samducksa CWC-203 Korean candy cab. I bought it from a guy on craigslist, and from what he told me, he 'hacked it' so it would plug into a standard USA wall socket and now there is a regular 5 port powerswitch inside. Apparently, with this 'hack' he performed, the power switch no longer functions. It just turns on as soon as it's plugged in. So what i've done is connected it to another power switch, so I sorta-kinda have a power switch.

Here are some pics: (I appologize for them being rotated. I tried to fix them, but photobucket is apparently retarded.)

The power supply/center looks like it has a model# of SS-2000A. I looked that up on google, and found nothing helpful. Apparently the two cords that are currently plugged into the power strip were originally plugged into that small 2 slot power 'strip' you see in the last picture. I've looked up vids on how to replace power supplies, or how to go from an older power supply to a current one, etc. But those are different from this one. If any of you have any idea how this one is set up, can you tell me if it would be possible to swap it out with a power supply purchased from JAMMAparts, or something?

Secondary, yet not as important question - Would it be easy or dangerous to try and move the power supply? It's currently sitting in the middle of the bottom of the cab. I have a Primal Rage board that is sitting on the inner shelf above it. The board is so huge, I just leave it in there and put in my other board (a CPS2 game) leaning against the wall on the cabs lower level as you can see in one of the pics. I'd like to see about A. swapping the power supply out for a smaller one, or B. moving it over so there's more room for games to sit without making contact with anything else.

have you ever ordered from Bob Roberts before? he sells like a fully assembled kit with an isolation transformer, a normal switching power supply, and the power switch altogether for like $90 if I recall.

might be in your best interest to just change everything out, so it won't really be hacked anymore.

EDIT: if you have any questions or anything you can PM me.

good luck!

I've never ordered from Bob, no. I'm lookin at his site, and I don't see a power supply kit link on the main page. Do you know where it might be?

@Hewitson it's nice. Made of wood rather than plastic/metal (the front is plastic/metal) but it works just fine. Monitor has 3 green corners, just need a degaussing coil.

It looks to me like he just bypassed the little two outlet box with the outlet strip. Have you followed the wire coming out of that box to it's end? I would expect that if you just put a standard three-pronged plug on the end of that wire and plug it in you could move the two internal plugs back and the switch would work correctly.

The other thought would be to follow the wires coming out of the switch to where they connect. You would then at least be able to determine why the switch doesn't work anymore.

I've used power strips inside multicades or MAME cabs before, if I'm in a pinch, so can't really knock that, but a couple screws to hold it in place (rather than duct tape) wouldn't have been that hard to add. I hate "messy" hacks. The strip's power button could have easily been tapped into (or bypassed to) the cab's ON/OFF too. Just my humble $0.000002

Well, you're both in the right, actually.

I'd like to replace it with a more 'modern' center, but only if necessary. My main goal is the real estate on the floor of the cab. I want to be able to lay a board flat since the shelf above the power center is pretty much occupied by Primal Rage's ginormous board. I want to just leave it in there since it's too big to slip in and out through the front door, and its a pain to pull my cab out from where it is to get to the back.

Also, I didn't get pictures of it (PITA to move) but originally the cab had one of those weird East European type connectors. Not a 3 prong AMURRICAN one, but one of those with the huge posts that are about 6 inches apart, lol. I'll have to look at it again, and probably get some pics of the area, but I think the previous owner spliced some wires and somehow connected it to the power strip that's inside.. I could totally be wrong, but Im not sure. I'll just pull it out again later today and get some pics.

As far as what that little power switch in the picture is connected to, Im about 99% sure it leads to that little 2 port power strip.

So yeah, I'd be willing to replace it, but if I don't have to and I can just move it over without getting my balls shocked off, then I'd be willing to try that.

Did you notice the title of the post?

I did read the title. My question was more to "where is the voice of reason?"

He's talking about replacing a working component. If this was a Williams cab you guys would be all up in arms. Why is a modern cab component, that would be more reliable, be different?
