I'm looking into the project of building my own silver strike machine..I saw this kit on ebay and have a couple questions

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270524786294&_trksid=p2759.l1259

1. Is this a good deal or would i be able to get all these individual components for cheaper somewhere?
-if not where would you recommend buying components for it.

2. Is this all I would need to do it? I already have a monitor & speakers that i could use..

3. Is it possible to upgrade this to SSB 2009?

Has anyone else taken on this project? I'm assuming people have done this. I would appreciate any help on this subject from someone who has experience. Thanks!

i've been watching that kit for sale for the past month at least. they are using a shill bidder to get the price up so be careful. the last auction thier shill bidder/friend won and just a little while later it was up for auction again. whoever was bidding for it had a price in mind and did not go over it and lost. the reason i think they are using shill/friend bidder as it was up for auction very soon after, no delay hardly at all.

i think its a bit pricey for the kit. you would think if it was a good deal it would have sold ages ago. i wrote them to ask what year it was and i think its a 2005 but i could be mistaken. at an auction here a couple months ago a WHOLE game of SSB sold for 450. monitor needed a cap kit and cab was so-so but it was a 2009.

100 bucks for shipping too. be careful.

Yeah I thought it seemed kinda shady myself which is what made join this forum to get some help and suggestions. Also, kind of makes me more sceptical that they are in Canada... I appreciate your reply!

Where should I go about buying components from a reliable source? I have been able to find the control board for and several other comoponents from gatorcade.com but can't seem to find a place to buy the nighthawk computer with software or the I/O board. Do you have any suggestions for this? Or do I just have to wait for someone to post a kit on this forum? What is a reasonable price?

I really just want the computer, controls, and everything b/c I am comfortable buidling a custom cabinet myself. Unless I can find an entire machine for a decent price. Thanks!

So I emailed these people about this kit and asked them if it included everything I would need being that I already have a monitor I am planning on using. They said I would need a jamma harness. So I did a search and it seems like there are several different ones. Which one is he talking about?
If someone has the answer to this please provide a link or part number of this harness. Thanks!

A jamma harness is the internal wiring for the cabinet for JAMMA games, which quite a lot of things are, it's been the standard since at least the late 80's. See http://www.jammaboards.com/store/jamma-full-cabinet-wiring-harness-loom/prod_146.html for an example of one. I haven't seen a manual for the game, so there might be something the game does beyond standard jamma wiring (usually referred to as JAMMA+, where extra buttons/whatever come off a separate connector on the board, such as the 3rd, 4th and 5th buttons in Street Fighter, JAMMA standard only has support for 3 buttons per 2 players), you might want to dig around for one. I don't have my bookmarks handy atm, google silver strike manual and you should find it.

Hopefully that's coherent, if not ask and I'll clarify whatever I may have mucked up in explanation. :)

*e* Also, if you post in the wanted section here, someone may have one they can sell you, or perhaps even a full cab.

keep looking you could get a whole machine complete for that much..

dont know where your at but in the chicagoland area jeff(aka chips4sle) had one i believe cheaper then that awhile ago.. dont know what year it was(like it really matters man) even if your not local might be worth a pm to see if he still has it and if he would be willing to strip and ship the kit

Thanks TK I will try to get a hold of the manual to see what I need and have already posted something in the wanted section.

Cadillac, Thanks for the contact info I will try to get a hold of him to see if he still has it. Btw I am in central Iowa so Chicago is not too far from here... Are all Silver Strike components basically the same and upgradeable to the latest version?

Splattergatz, no I did not buy it...i'm still kind of sceptacle about it and I went to the link today and looks like someone did purchase it last minute...could've been that shill bidder you were talkin about but we'll just have to wait & see if it gets posted again.

Thanks again everyone for your help!! I hope to get this all figured out here pretty soon.
