I've been kinda kicking around an idea for one wall in my soon to be renovated (ie repaired from massive flood) Mancave. I've considered looking for old NES game boxes and cutting them down so I have just the front and maybe back art, and sort of doing a collage of them on the wall, or in frames and hanging them.

Any thoughts?

That would be cool, but why cut up the actual boxes? That would be a cool print to have on some kind of wallpaper or whatever.

That's why I was considering framing them, sort of in a shadowbox sort of thing. I've seen a few boxes on ebay, but not sure if there is another reliable place to go for 'em that won't gouge the heck out of me on price.

Yeah, I wouldn't cut them up either. I think you would be better off printing out the box art and using it. Unless you are wanting to hunt and peck. Most of the "good" game's boxes are expensive, because they are wanted by collectors to put their loose titles in. IMO it would suck to find out someone cut up a Chrono Trigger box to hang on the wall, because that's one I'm really interested in getting.

See if the art is available to print; don't cut up boxes that collectors are looking for. With that being said, I do like the idea!

Similar scenario: Someone dissembling/destroying arcade cabinets to hang the sideart in their mancave.

Remember, nintendo collectors are people too :)

I would get the scans of the boxes and have them printed in different sizes. have the coolest looking boxes printed in poster size or bigger, and fill in the gaps with smaller, less cool box scans.

paint the wall with the color scheme from the nes controller, unless you plan on covering the whole wall with scans.

Don't ask me why but I have probably 50 or so cut up NES boxes, just the front and back cut out. This was done along time ago. I might consider selling them.

Oh man, I know you said not to ask you "Why?" but...WHY? Please don't list them. I would hate to see a Mega Man 1 or something in that stack of NES box corpses. :)

alot of video rental places cut the front and back of the boxes back in the day to make their rental displays. they pop up on ebay alot.

Don't ask me about the garage bags of NES boxes I though out when I moved over 10 years ago. BEfore I knew about ebay and stuff.

I'm the mad king of room collages... but I am currently working on a closet collage of sports card box lids... For NES games, I'd recommend some way to preserve the boxes since they are highly collectible.
