Wait... Did this just happen?

If the game is still on CL next week, I'll offer the guy $50 for the cabinet and recommend he sell the boards on Ebay or something.

I love Gauntlet... I hate seeing it like that. Granted... expensive restoration, but... whatever.

It's a Main Event, not Gauntlet.

It may be a Main Event control panel, but it is definitely a Gauntlet cabinet. Look at the bezel.....

I don't think I would pick that one up unless your going to replace that control panel too. That thing is a beast!

I like projects like that... makes me feel like I accomplished something. I can make (cut) a new CP, but getting 4 Atari joysticks? ugggg...

I think Dek's right, the main event has the point at the front center of the CP, the Gauntlet looks straight across. That one definitely has the point. Very similar though.

edit: oh, I should read fully, I see what you mean about the bezel...

Here's another Simpsons conversion in a Gauntlet cab I saw at an airport last year. It also has Punk Shot artwork and marquee! They have a bunch of other "interesting" conversions, including a Neo Geo in a Xenophobe cab, Combatribes in a Rampage cab, and a Namco Classics Vol 1 in a Galaxian/Pac-Man shaped cab with Galaga marquee and a Nichibutsu logo on the control panel!

Main event came as a conversion kit, with a control panel that would latch right onto a Gauntlet. They made several games specifically for the Gauntlet cabinet, to kit it out. That olympics one was another... So they must have kitted a Gauntlet into a main event, with the main event kit control panel, then later kitted the main event control panel and the gauntlet cabinet into a simpsons since simpsons only came with an overlay in the kit. Whew!

I've got a main event kit laying around somewhere, the control panel came with it. It's huge.

Based on that knowledge about there being a Main Event kit having the full CP for a Gauntlet, that explains it completely... So then, all someone needs is to find a Gauntlet CP and slap it back in without as much work as we all thought might be involved.

I had a Gauntlet once that had been kitted. It cost a LOT of money just to get it functioning as a Gauntlet again.. the metal bracket up top probably has screw holes in it where he attached first the Main Event Marquee and then later the Simpsons Marquee, so someone will probably have to replace that. At the very least you'll need a new Gauntlet marquee overlay to wrap it with... plus the front sticker, plus side art, plus a Gauntlet control panel, plus the board,.... that puts you up to probably $450 just in parts to get it half way back to a Gauntlet, maybe more if you want the cool Atari logo sticks.

Gauntlet is a MONEY PIT when you start getting into it.

At least it makes sense.

I think it might be a picture at the hellcade site, but there's a M.A.C.H. 3 upright
with a 4 player ninja turtles crammed into it.

There's no way 4 people could have fit in front of that thing.
