hi all....today my playchoice 10 started acting funny. the top screen went from the usual "choice 10" to a message that just said "wait 10 seconds"....what does that mean and what causes it?

I remember my cabinet saying it sometimes and in MAME it always says that.

Is it a power supply issue...like the system is waiting for stable power during the 10 seconds? Due to a bad/ dirty PSU connection.

Or others have reported it due to bad chips on the motherboard. One of the ROM/RAM socketed chips is bad/dirty/loose. Run self test and see which chip is not passing (ok = pass, ng = fail)unseat it use connector cleaner and reseat. If this does not work you need to get a replacement chip. The manual for this system can be found on this site: http://playchoice.riemen.net/rep_manuals.html Good luck.

it's normal for it to say that during boot up. most times you won't see it cause the tubes are warming up, but if you do a quick shut down/power on you'll see it. I'm guessing the main board has to read all the games installed.

I think it's power-related when it does it and stays on though. I assume you haven't capped the power supply recently? I need to do that on ALL of my Nintendo stuff.

switching the plug in the wall outlet seemed to fix it...havent seen it in days. maybe theres a power issue with my outlet?

I hope that does the trick, but don't count on it. I've done a bunch of troubleshooting thinking each time I fixed it, only to have it happen a week or so later in the middle of a stellar game of Dr. Mario.

It happens in the middle of a game?

If so, does the game just end or what?

Yep- game ends, the 10 sec. screen comes on, credits are gone and then back to the menu. Sometimes it will let me begin another game, sometimes not. I haven't pulled it out to look at it thoroughly though. But it happened a few weeks ago every time I selected a game- I got pissed and shut it off. Then, a few nights ago, the kids wanted to play so I turned it on and no problems...

I have to keep an eye out for that to help debug. I could think of a few causes, but it would be speculation.

BTW, just installed the the 2 repro instruction stickers I got from you a few months ago. Looks sweet.

Cool- I'll start a thread on it once I get a chance to move it back out into the garage.

Sweet!! Glad you like them!
