wacko trackball rebuild, ball isn't as smooth as I'd like

I did the rebuild from mousetrap on ebay (chps4sle) on here.

The parts were nice, and his service was good.

The ball doesn't roll as nice as I'd like it to. I mean I am holding a new 2 1/4" trackball and zipping it and it rolls for 2 seconds. This won't roll for 1/10th of a second once I release it.

Are there any tricks for getting it rolling smoother?

I have had the same problem as well. Now I just replace them with new complete units. The price is not that much more than replacing the bearings, rollers and ball and I know everything is new and perfect just a little more pricey. I now have a box full of old trackball units I need to get rid of.

there is no "new" complete unit for the wacko unfortunately. and it is very unique.

I went out and pumped out a few games, and it's better. no complaints. It doesn't roll as freely as a brand new happ 2 1/4, but it's good.

Did you try replacing the ball itself? Maybe its dirty/worn and does not roll nice against the new rollers...

I didn't go that far yet. do you think it's the same size ball as an upright missile command?

I have to say after playing it quite a bit, it does perform very well.
