Vs. Tetris Thread

Wow, this is crazy. I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with this game. OH WOW!!! ... i was way off with the dip switch!! It is dip 7 i think i use. Wow, i didn't get to take a picture last night or get to look at what dip is on.

I think the settings i have are off off off on off off on off...

Ben, look on the bottom side of the board. Is the memory mod done??? ... It is a trace wire connecting anothing? http://www.johnsarcade.com/vs_downloads/misc/VS_Board_Memory_Boost.pdf

Just trying to see what might be happening. I have the memory mod done to the board it is on so i am wondering if that is the problem.

Checked the pcb before I left for work. No memory mod on the pcb. The first one I used was the one I got from you and the pcb the game is on now is the spare I had here. Like I said, it's working fine now with the chips installed on the right side... just wasn't on the left side.

Just curious, but what games other than Gumshoe required the memory modification? I have a board with one on it, but it's never seemed to effect anything.

Well, i know Clu Clu land wouldn't work until i did it.

You shouldn't see a difference, kind of like the gun modification. Once you cut those caps off, you can still play any game.

Weird... just... weird. hah

Alright, I tried dip 3 on, dip 7 on, dips 1,2,3 on, dip 8 on, then 3 and 8 on, 1,2,3 and 8 on, 1,2,3,7 and 8 on and none of them look 'right'. In the title screen, the Tetris logo and the 'russian game of whatever' get lost in the background, If I turn up the brightness to be able to see the text, then the background gets washed out. Definitively, what should all 8 dips be set to to make this look the best it can? One guy says 'turn 3 on', one guy says 'turn 8 on', then the 3 guy says he meant 'turn on 7'. What should each dipswitch be set to exactly? What does each one control? The game plays, but it looks blaah.

I have been using this:
1-off
2-off
3-on
4-off
5-off
6-off
7-off
8-off

I played around a bit lastnight and doesn't seem like dips 1 or 2 do anything. 3 & 4 (from John's site) seem to adjust difficulty. 5-8 adjust color... apparently.

I wish there was a freeplay option for this one.

That was my next question. I hate opening the hoods up and flicking the credit switch for my kids, I'm always worried about their fingers when I close it.

Hi! You might be new to COIN-OPERATED machines, but try putting a quarter in the slot that says 25 cents. Good luck, I hope it works out for you!

Yeah, that sounds good, unless you are too poor to have quarters and other legal tender just lying about the house any old where. Must be nice to be a rich bitch with not a care in the world. The keychain business seems to have been good to you. God bless.

hah! ... I was the dip 3 guy. My bad. dips 6, 7, and 8 change the colors. there are only so many combinations you would need to try: (3^2 = 9)

I don't have my dip switches memorized, i was trying to do it off the top of my head. If you have the same green outline that i did with an 0001 PPU, then i still think it is something on your end. All my colors are crisp, no bleed, and look very nice imo. I would take a pic but working from 7am-8pm with an hour and a half commute each way kind of makes you forget about checking the dips on a pcb lol. To be honest when i got home yesterday, i kissed my wife goodnight and went to bed.

Sorry man, i can look tomorrow. I must have sold 20 of the exact chipsets. Where is everyone?! lol

That's what I'm going for to, but I need another working PCB. So far the last 3 Vs. PCB boards I've bought have been bad.

Yeah I know the feeling. I have 3 right now that are doa. Two were from DaveZ ... man that felt bad to even say. lol

Whats wrong with them? Are they totaly dead? Reseting? ..

No, it's 2^3 = 8. Learn some probability.

You listed 010 twice.

hah switched those number around. Oh well. i was close. You got the point though right? ... Wouldn't have hurt to try 010 twice, just to make sure.
